I mean I know the C6 is ugly to begin with but sticking a big nose on it just makes it look like Mickey Mouse. Nice one, GM, design a car for Europe and forget it has to have a front plate.

This would blunt even the new Z06

I suppose the only hope for the Z06 is that it's not type approved and so you can stick a mini-plate on...

Dear Sir.

Thank you for your enquiry. I am delighted to be able to confirm that we can sell you a lump of black plastic with a car behind it for just £30,000 plus the trade-in of your C5. We can also confirm that the lump of black plastic for the European market will be a much more interesting shape; in fact it will be two thirds the height and twice the width of the one you saw on a USA car in the photo. You will certainly stand out from the crowd of "ordinary" £50,000 cars with one of those.

Do let us know as soon as you want to place your order as we expect demand to be very strong.

Yours regardless

Percy Pendragon

PS If you want to spend a bit more money we're hoping to find a way to get something similar onto the front of the XLR where it will serve an extra purpose as a handy nudge parking aid around Mayfair.

Can you imagine taking delivery of your brand new German C6 and seeing that some prat couldn't even fit the damn thing properly! Sorry about the size of the pic, it's like that on the site I stole it from.

In a strange sort of way, the fact that it is not on straight is good news as it implies that the nose is not pre-drilled at the factory. Therefore, if you stop the dealer from fitting it, you could come up with your own solution............

Yuk! Absolutely horrible. UK number plate laws strike again.

I agree that the C5 solution is far more elegant.

Hi V7TTE do not blame the UK completely, some of Europe is worse, when I picked up my 2004 from Germany the front nose had one of those plastic fixings in black in place of the Corvette cap (atleast it was in the car) so they could fix there number plate the same as UK plates across the front of the car it looks terrible, UK American car clubs got it agreed with government we could use 6x12 US size plates where the Corvette cap fixes, but most owners seem just to keep the Corvette cap and no plate.
LUSIFER as for the Germans great to deal with but they are not perfect, I gave them my 6x12 metal states plates to fix to my new car back fine, front he drilled my plate where the German plate holder goes I did not watch him and when I looked he had fixed it, he did not realise the black cap was to be taken of as my plates would fit, he said no problem and took of my plate and then the black cap, he was then going to use the 2 holes he had drilled in my metal number plate but they where 3" away from the fixing points Cheverolet supply in the nose so he would have self tapped the nose of my new car I did not swear just, and asked him to put back the black cap put my number plate back and I would buy my self a replace front number plate and drill it in the correct place, have not yet had time to drill the plate so put the Corvette body cap on?
I think the best of a bad job for the C6 front would be if legal to have a stick on plate like some race cars, but for a super car it is still a joke, if Chevrolet can't give Europe a front for the C5 I would not buy one, I feel sure some US states need front plates I know not many.

You're quite right. I should've said "Yuk. Horrible. EU number plate laws strike again....".

I really do appreciate the efforts that went into getting special dispensation for some yanks and Jap cars to show smaller plates, but if I ordered a C6 and it turned up from the showroom with that monstrosity mounted on the front I think I'd get the petrol and matches out...(for myself, not the car).

I personally bought a colour-matched "smoothie" surround for my C5 plate and I'm delighted with it. I'm surprised that Chevrolet (sorry, "Corvette") didn't come up with something equally elegant this time around.

All you have to do now is stop them drilling it in the first place.

Looking at the pics of this contraption, it looks like it mounts using two "existing" holes inside the nose. The nose doesn't look to be pre-drilled on the front and if it was they would probably have used those holes for their new device.

Probably a practical solution but not too pretty - I hope they've tested it in a wind tunnel at 150mph (those mounting holes are going to have to be very strong). This is a massive oversight by GM designers, particularly as it has legal implications for owners where front plates are law.

By the way - it's confession time. I still have the black plastic protrusion fitted in Germany on my car and it will probably stay on. My only preference would be the painted surround which Pete has but I think it will obliterate some of my letters - will have to have a measure sometime.

Hi Richard you have confessed about that black cap before, I am sorry to say I do not like the look, I like the plate set back.
