C1288 - Steering Sensor Circuit Malfunction
Discussion
Hi All,
I have had a problem and not too sure of the severity.... I have a 2001 Auto C5.
Just now going round a corner at about 10MPH, the front right I think locked up. Then the DIC went mad and said SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING and SERVICE CAR SOON
The Active Light Came on and remained until i turned off the engine. After checking the diagnostics the 2 error faults were....
28-TCS
DTC C1287 Steering Sensor Rate Malfunction - H
DTC C1288 Steering Sensor Circuit Malfunction -H
Now both History. Others that are on, but I dont think are relevant are :
B2605 in the SCM (Seat Module)
and 4 in the RFA (Remote Function)
The corvette forum says this in an older post..

"Refers to the steering position sensor. There is a known defect which requires sensor replacement. Call your dealer."
Is it OK to drive?
Can i leave it to be looked at when it next needs a service (it needs the column lock recall too), or does it need to go now? Does the sensor need cleaning?
Any help would be most appreciated!

I have had occasionally had the Active Handling warmup routine going on when I drive my 2003 Z06 and it is fine to drive. It is possible that your sensor needs cleaning, but if I was you I would drive the car as I doubt it is a problem as the code is showing as History.
Obviously if the problem recurs then get it looked but otherwise I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks Nige
I drove it a bit more last night and again this morning - not too hard mind you, but since i was only doing 10Mph it could only be an intermittent thing like you say - no problems for the last 24 hours.
I will keep a look out. If it does need cleaning, anyone know of the procedure, so I can have a look?
