Anybody fitted a replacement one of these?

If so, any tips on location (I can't find it in the wheel arch), accessability? and any special tools needed to remove the fuel lines?

I thought the filter was inside the tank? (Yes I know that is a really, really stupid place to put it).

Try sending a message to Pete Campbell (yellowshark454) as I recall he was tormenting me recently by saying they were inside the fuel tanks but on some years they weren't!! He confused me totally (not difficult I hear you say) but I remember thinking "I hope I never have to change a fuel filter"

I would have thought that the C5 uses a usual GM fuel filter - which is external, and clips in (no special tools or anything required) along an external fuel line somewhere....

As Rich advises simple this do confuse the older generation. On an 01, the fuel filter is located under the left rear of the car and I assume this is the same for all model years up to mid 03. You may need to lower the left muffler to access it. Also, you need a special tool to release the quick connects. The GM J-tool set for this is J37088-A, however, some auto parts stores sell "generic" substitutes.

Use only an ACDelco GF822 filter.

Half way through 03, GM moved the fuel filter into the left fuel tank and you have to remove the fuel tank to change it. And yes you have to to move other stuff like the rear axle assembley to drop the tank. I did hear a view that someone, aka your wife etc with exceedingly slim hands could access the filter with dropping the tank. If you have a model with this don't feel too bad as C6 owners have 2 of the buggers. My advice would be wait until it happens then trade up for a C6 and give the problem to someone else.
