There are many musical references to Corvettes and ahead of the Was (Not Was) gig in Camden at the end of May are there any advances on these colorful Corvette lyrics:

Was (Not Was) - Out Come The Freaks.
"Little Rita and her sister Betta
Met some mook who drove a purple Chevy
Says he'll do his best but that's no promise
Off he goes in his Corvette to get a tan."

Eiffel 65 - Blue Ba Ba Dee Da Ba Daa.
"Blue are the people here that walk around
Blue like my Corvette, it's standing outside".

Beyonce - Crazy In Love.
"I sling tho' if anything I bling yo
A star like Ringo, roll like a green Corvette".

Tom Waits - Gun Street Girl.
"Got all liquored up on roadhouse corn
Blew a hole in the hood of a yellow Corvette".

LL Cool J - Goin Back to Cali.
"The top is down on the black Corvette
And it's fly coz it's sittin on Daytons".

Prince - Little Red Corvette.
"Honey I say little red Corvette
Baby you're much too fast".

Natalie Cole was enthusiastic about her pink Cadillac but I don't think it was an XLR so not out of Bowling Green and doesn't count!

Billie Ocean sang " out of my dreams and into my car" but with no specific Corvette link.

An interesting topic - funnily enough, my (ex now!) other car, a Cadillac, is featured in loads and loads of music - and most of it pretty good too!!

But to carry on - how about films with 'vettes in it? Sadly there don't seem to be too many with vettes screeching around, but off the top of my head films with 'vettes in "major" or "supporting" roles include:

- xXx (Vin Diesel) - Red C5 vert
- Boogie Nights (Burt Reynolds) - Red C3 coupe
- Knight Rider WAS NOT A CORVETTE (just in case anybody reading was going to add that!)

Any more?

OMG Nigel won't like that!

Steve, one good car track (not about Vettes though) is Kerb Crawler sung by the late, great Bob Calvert. Good lyrics

....
Kerb Crawler
White sidewalls, with grooves
Kerb Crawler
So fast he hardly moves
Kerb Crawler
He really approves of
Your high heels clicking
Like a pair of cloven hooves

Excuse Me Lady
Are you looking for a lift?
I ain't going nowhere special
I'm just out on the drift
I'll take you anywhere you want
Drop you outside your door
I might drive us down the Autobahn
With my foot right to the floor
.....

OK, I'll get my coat

An (excellent) film with Vettes playing a bigger part than in most is Apollo 13. Somewhere (hidden away) on this PC is a whole list of films with Vettes in, but most only have a fleeting glimpse and are what I'd rate as "Z" movies (not as in beyond "X", but as in make you doze off).

Movies featuring Corvettes

Con Air featured a C2 convertible

Gone in 60 seconds had a C2 Coupe (very briefly) in it

WARNING: The above link is sad!

Yes, with an orange stripe.

REM's latest is called Electron Blue - clearly inspired by my Z06.

Don't forget Vettes In Practice

Ok going off on a different tangent but talking about famous people who drive Corvettes.
I was going out with a Numanoid in 98' and we went to see Gary Numan in New York and Washington. As my ex was the photographer for the Gary Numan fanzine we were invited back stage to meet him after the gig. I asked him about his Corvette that he was given early on in his career from his record company only for him to tell me he had sold it. I explained to Gary Numan about my Corvette and the annual Corvette Nationals at Knebworth but ended up just going very red.

The drummer from Def Leppard had a Vette and so did that cheap as chips antiques program presenter David Dickinnson??

Regarding 80s electro all I can say is it could have been worse. It might have been Mark Almond.

As for "hair metal", Rick Allen of Def Leppard (drums) did have a Corvette. The only catch was the seat belt ripped his arm off in a high speed accident.

David Dickinson? Don't know about his car ownership habits but orange would be the best color whatever the brand. Maybe a nice Bond Bug or something.

I saw this clapped out yellow Corvette at Avon Park a couple of years back. You'd have to be visually impaired to buy a car that looked like this. LOL! I seem to recall it ran a 14....

They go faster if you paint stripes on them ...but back on topic:

A red C2 played a supporting role in the UFO series - it was permanently in the Harlington-Straker film studios car park.

One of the Delta fraternity had a red C1 in National Lampoon's Animal House.

You'll see Corevettes driving past in the background of Bullitt and Annie Hall (but only if you're really sad and looking for them !)
