Not vette specific but

Zaino Bros

Those guys really don't want to do business outside the US. Wouldn't even ship to a US address and me pay with my UK credit card.

What I hate about ordering direct from the US is that if customs decide to be nasty they charge all kinds of tax not only on the part but also on the shipping cost! Now how unfair is that!??!

Especially when Fedex decide to do the declaration on your behalf and charge you for the service you didnt ask for. They then estimate the shipping costs usually more then they were, (Nb they are the shipper so they should know the costs) then charge TAX on the over inflated costs and it ends up the tax being more than the item.

... and UPS (brown van folk) also charge you an £11 fee on top of all that for "handling"... what a rip off!

Still, it usually works out cheaper no matter which way you cut it to get parts direct from the US....

I hate to keep banging on about it but this is exactly why we started Moving Parts!!!

If you have a supplier who won't ship or you want to clarify exactly what it will cost before you bring it in, do call us. We are Vetteheads as well as Forwarders and we can help...

Apologies for the plug but we hear from so many people with these problems. It can be totally painless and very cost effective.

UPS are by far the worst. Having said that.. After a very long dispute over duty, they appear to have waivored about £130 I was due to pay them.

During about 8 moinths of argueing, letters back and fro ( including legal threats ), they still werent able to calculate the correct amount of duty owed. Hence I never paid them, and told them I wouldnt until it was calculated right. Thats a long time ago now.
Strange that they actually left it at my door without seeking payment in the first place.

Ive ordered from Lingenfelter before. There wasnt any hassle apart from them using UPS.

Customs here is yet another scam. Virtually everything I get from the US, I get over charged.

IMO USPS is probably about the best courier, and the least hassle.

I've always found UPS ok, to the point now that I specify on the order that the parts are to ship UPS. The worst of all is any of the companies that pass the UK leg of the journey over to Parcel Force - You think UPS and a £11 fee is bad then try Parcel force. These days I use Moving Parts for the big shipments - much better.

As for companies that wont ship, the most annoying has to be GM Parts Direct (which has nothing to do with GM)
I have bought parts from them through a contact in the US but they will not ship outside the US.

Neither I nor a guy in France got any tax demands when we ordered from MidAmerica Motorworks for some reason and they also debit your card direct for shipping.

Another thing to mention, and this stems from my experience with UPS.

When purchasing stuff from the US, if there is any dispute at all about duty, ensure you keep all documentation realiting to it.
Its good advise to keep it even if there isnt a dispute at the time, as some couriers send you a duty bill months after they give you the stuff.

I usually had a habit of throwing receipts out, but with the UPS thing, I knew I was going to ahve trouble, and luckily I kept all paperwork.

Hey Steve, have you figured out a way yet of bringing in small parts for all us girls that use you for the big stuff? Gets to a point where you run out of big stuff to buy, unless you want to start building another car...Hmmm, thats an idea...I wonder!

Almost forgot, have a look at SpeedDirect.com, they are good for the C3 steeroids rack & pinions steering rack but also Baer Brakes (all vettes) 5 point harness bars, spherical bearing clutch rods and a lot more.
