For all you DIYers into C4's i have started to dismantle the stock shifter on my spare ZF6Speed and am going to trial fit the Hurst short shifter, once i have simplified the procedure i will post photos, at the same time i am going to do some minor stuff like front and rear seals, change oil etc again i will post photos, probably within the next week.

Keep me posted too bud!

I'm using a heavily uprated ZF6speed... would be interested in any adaptable short-shifter linkages...

Ash.

Ash ime using the Hurst short shifter,it comes in around a couple of hundred $ + shipping, the short shifter is meant to be one of the best additions you can make to the car alledgedly(yet to try),what have you done to your ZF,where did you get it done,Cliff

At the moment ime a couple of pages in and it all seems straight forward, just awkward.

Been in touch with the ZF doc a while back regarding certain technical questions on the ZF6 front.

The process list it went through is long, I'll dig it up and email it over to you sometime.

But basically money spent - the box is now good for 1200lb/ft in a car weighing in at 1000kg.

This shows a close up of the lower rubber boot(remember your stock shifter will still be connected),there are 3 cable ties, cut the top tie and the lower of the 2 forward ties(ive cut both of these for next demonstration)

Once you have cut the lower of the 2 forwrad ties pull back rubber, you will see a clip in its groove which falls inline with the centre of the pin which holds the "gear shift rod" to "gear shift shaft".
This photo shows after i have withdrawn the clip out of it groove and clear of the pin, then using a smaller drift and medium size hammer knock the pin upwards and out of the hole.

Now you will need to go back in the car and undo the 4 nuts holing the cover plate(seen in picture 4),take off cover plate and wiggle the stock shifter out of its housing,at this point be aware of shims either end of shifter pivot as you withdraw the the shifter, the pivot guides may also slide off.
You can now take the stock shifter to your work bench, ime off to get some more photos.

This photo shows shifter with pivot carrier removed just take off the 2 C-clips and take pin out wiggling shifter free,on the refit grease the area well and reinstall pin with new C-clips that come with the short shifter kit,NOTICE a corner section cut out of pivot carrier, this faces forward on the L/H side.

And finally,to seperate the gear shift rod from the shifter there is a flange head pin that goes thru a bigger pin(gear shift rod shaft),place the assembly on a block of wood and using a centre punch knock out the flange head pin ,the gear shift rod shaft will now come out of the shifter to be reused, notice on the reinstall the flat face on the gear shift rod shaft faces up the shifter with 2 small concave washers between the face and gear shift rod.

The flange head pin is replaced with another pin and 2 C-clips in the kit

All you need to do now is reinstall the new shifter in revrese order ,using loads of grease and its been recomended to pack in as many shims as possible when putting the shifter and pivot back in the housing.

Also remember to have the open cut out area on the pivot to face forward on the L/hand side.
