Exhaust Technical Question
Discussion
I'm wondering whether anybody on here has removed the CATS on there C5? I was looking to remove mine mostly for the Noise improvement but will it improve noise greatly or power slightly or niether? Does anyone have any pics of where the CATS are placed in the exhaust diagram or something...
We considerered removing cats from the pace car, decided against it as could cause O2 sensor problems and possibly MOT, however opted for Random Technologies Hi Flo cats which are great, we already have a custom exhaust without mufflers so the sound is pretty good anyway but became even louder!
From what I've read on other boards you're best off either leaving the standard catalytic convertors in place or replacing with the Random high-flow ones. There have been many reports of problems from those who have removed them and no measurable power gains from doing so, in fact a small loss is more likely !
Ibelieve the C5's had a newer version of OBDII that had a second oxygen sensor (possible it's the third if there is one in each manifold...) just after the cat - this one checked that the cat was working. If you take it off you'll need to get the device that plugs into the cat O2 sensor plug to fool the brain into thinking all is well. I think you can get these from the usual US supplier suspects,, Ecklers, Mid America etc.
