One of the problems ive noticed whilst taking the engine apart is the engine loom that pass's near hot areas like the block or headers,in places the covering has come unwrapped, melted or in some cases not wrapped at all waiting for the dreaded gremlins to get to work so ive used a range of products supplied by agriemach.com such as heat resistant tape and ducting known as "Cool Tube" to rectify the problem.

This was the anti knock sensor & wires as it was found,it obviously hadnt been fastend right when the engine was last put in,

And this is after using "Cool Tube" ,ive also covered the earth wire to engine, ive still got to fasten it in place with wire once my twist pliers arrive.

This is part of the loom that pass's under the plenum where all the heat is,cool tube withstands heat up to 500 Degrees F and is made of nylon tubing covered in aluminised glass fibre fabric.

From experience with my C5 I would also suggest insulating fuel lines, brake lines, clutch lines and anything plastic!
