After covering 250 miles in my C5 yesterday I had a chance of a good long drive in a C6 this morning. It was one of the fast ones (red coupe :)) with manual transmission. My impressions compared with C5 are,

* Engine - fantastic! Acceleration in 2nd and 3rd ferocious; just the way we like it.
* Steering - significantly improved with less weight and more feel. This shows up in the twisties and on the motorway. C6 feels lighter and more willing to change direction. A good step forward.
* Transmission - it's clunky but it works. More driveline shunt than I'm used to. Maybe the auto cushions it.
* Brakes - fine.
* Suspension - very firm ride with Z51 and Goodyear runflats. Z51 sharpens the handling but no way would I buy one of these; magnetic ride control would be an essential tick on my options list and lose the runflats at first opportunity.
* NVH - significantly improved, particularly on the motorway. Wind noise and rear tyre noise reduced.
* Exterior styling - good, let down by Toyota nose.
* Interior styling - similar to C5 with some detail improvements.
* Overall - very definitely C5 mark 2 with some worthwhile improvements. If you have the cash and don't already own a C5 then go and buy a C6! If you own a C5 keep it and save yourself £30k.

My plans? Wait and try a 6-speed auto with magnetic ride control which could be a very different car. The LS2 gives so much performance I would find it difficult to justify spending big bucks more for an LS7.

Based on my C6 experience I can't imagine there will be any road car on the planet capable of keeping up with a Z06......if you feel the need to go that fast!

I presume the C5 was a base 350bhp one and not the ZO6 C5? As the C5 Z06 was 405 and then new base C6 is 400.

Yes, a '99 auto coupe with F45 and Michelin Pilot Sports. Took it out for drive later today and the ride is massively better than base Euro C6.

Also - something I forgot to add. In Euro spec the C6 has lost the trade-mark Corvette look of twin rear brake lights! WTF?? The outboard lamps are brake/indicator and the inboard pair must be Euro fog lamps. Maybe an owner can tell us whether there are 2 or 4 red rear side lamps.

Sadly all the two lights do is work when you have fog!
It really looks poor at night two rear lights with indicators & when you brake all you get is just 3 lights come on not like the C5! I had a look at one at Le Mans last week, I'm sure something can be done!

Send for Doctor Diode!! A few minutes semiconductor surgery should sort things out.

Regarding driveline shunt in cars with rear mounted gearbox see www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=23&t=188493
