I have just had the unenviable task of changing the in line fuel filter on my '93 LT1 Vette. It is a P.I.T.A., but there are a couple of ways to make it easier , and the difference it has made to the response and pick up has made the trouble worth it. If anyone out there is contemplating doing it and want the pointers to making it slightly easier let me know and I will share the experience.

On the Z it is located under the passenger side firewall. Easy if you are using a lift but a right PITA if not.

It is located inboard of the chassis rail on the passenger side. The location is conveniently and thoughtfully above the exhaust cat (bigger on the LT1 than the L98 so more of a PITA) and below various components in the engine bay. If you have the cross brace, as fitted to the convertible and ,I believe later coupes, this is also in the way. Furthermore, it is attached to the chassis by a 10 mill bolt which is also virtually inaccessible. More detail will be provided if enough interest is shown. The worst of all this is, it hasn't cured my stalling problem. Any suggestions anybody?

The dreaded word opti-spark springs to mind.......

Have you replaced yours in the last 2 years? If not it could be that time again! Velveteen is about to get opti-spark number 4 as it has been running really rough at times over the last few weeks and at other times it runs perfectly, which is classic opti-spark problems.

Colin, does the car run fine then die or is it a constant problem? The other option could be the coil to opti-spark lead working it's way loose from the opti-spark.

Started a week ago. From cold stopped twice in about 50 yards started straight away and then perfect. Monday this week did the same thing but after having driven for a mile. However after the second stall refused to start. Left for a couple of hours started and ran perfectly. Changed the filter on thursday night, ran 5 miles without a blip. Heavy acceleration was fine as was normal driving and tickover. Parked it up, got in next morning and it stalled twice within 100 yards and again refused to restart. It has never run roughly in the 5-6 years that I have owned it and to the best of my knowledge and certainly in my ownership, never had an opti-spark fitted. Having talked to Keith Beschi on wednesday, it does not display any of the classic opti signs. There are also no fault codes shown up by the computer. Confused I am. I will try looking/feeling for the coil to opti lead if I can find it, thanks for that tip
