I thought I'd save £60 so went out and cross-drilled my exsisting braided line. I now have fluid dripping out by all four wheels - is this right??

Yes, has the added benefit of making your car lighter. You will also find it now approaches roundabouts, junctions, slower moving traffic etc. much faster...
