Discussion
Someone recently posted a topic about number plates on here. It was about the legalities of the size of charectors for american ccars. Unfortunately, this site wont currently let me go back more than 4 pages (the beggining of Jan) and it doesn't seem to be in this lot. Could that someone please repost that information so that I may print it off. Thanks.

Display of Vehicle Registration Marks on Imported Vehicles
(which have a restricted space for a standard sized number plate)
Certain imported vehicles may be permitted to display number plates with smaller characters if:
The vehicle does not have European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval
AND
The vehicle's construction/design cannot accomodate standard size number plates
Specifications for smaller sized plates (for certain imported vehicles)
Character Height
64mm
Character Width
44mm
Character Stroke
10mm
Space between characters
10mm
I believe the above is a motorcycle plate size. If I ever put the front plate back on my car it will be that size and I have printed the detail out to keep in the glove box if ever I get stopped.

Here's the thread I think you wanted : www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=215010&f=100&h=0&hw=plate
Basically, a motorcycle size font is allowed on a plate size of 12"x6" on an imported car, but only if the plate recess is too small to allow a standard UK size plate. That said, I've heard of no-one having problems with MOT or Plod using bike size plates anyway - they're clear enough after all.
