Just picked this up from Vettnette; can't sauy i have heard of it over here

I just went through this. It's the oil pressure sender unit ($70 retail at your local dealer so I hope you have a Corvette Club discount!). There is a step by step procedure on the Corvette Forum (just do a search in the C5 section) with procedures if you want to tackle it yourself. It's a bit of a PITA, but it will save you a ton of money.
If you have trouble finding the article, let me know and I'll try to find it and send you the link. BTW, this seems to be a very prevalent problem that hits about the 60k-70k mile on C5's.
