Found out today why my No8 cylinder was running with lower compression compared to the other 7. Looks like it decided to eat a screw from the air horn extension. Damaging the piston and removing the top ring.

That be the screw out of the airhorn then,little blighter.
Did it damage the liner Brett?

Not really as I sent my engine to the states at Christmas for a 368

He didn't say if the liner was damaged or not. Still looks quite good on the original picture when zoomed right in. Doesn't really matter as the oversize liners will be going in anyway.

After looking at you photo its very easy to see why my engine blew out the first time,on mine the end of the plugs melted and so did chunks of certain valves after the calibration was set up wrong and it leaned out on top end,i was told these would of vapourised and gone out of the exhaust.
My oil pump was buggered aswell as it looked like fine grit had gone through it,i wonder if fine molten materials get past the rings and into the system.
Its worth discussing this with Marc to see what measures he takes in the cleaning proccess before the rebuild,last thing you want is tiny molten particles lurking in your engine.

It's impressive where bits end up when an engine has some trauma. I had bits of aluminium thrown all the way round the complicated tracts in my old MX6's inlet manifold when that went bang - and that was a bottom end issue.

Cliff, when yours went did it actually hole any pistons? I guess the other possibility is that the debris in the oil pump may have actually been down to a dodgy rebuild... but that might be another subject!

I had a lovely LT4 roller rocker that had lost it's roller after doing a "down" when it should have been "up" following hydraulicing the piston when it ingested a load of water from a way to big puddle.......

I also had a set of very bent push rods from the same incident.......

I also had a bag of very broken turbo veins when the twin turbos on Jan's Skyline decided to give up .......

and I also have two of these.......


Note the lovely new shiny turbo and manifold next to this scrap turbo....(the cracked manifold also got binned).

I also did this to the back of mine......


A single little screw......pah!

There is a vague chance that I will be back in possession by Easter 2006

In the meantime here is my new steering wheel with the connector for the steering boss I bought from the US last week.




On that subject I order the C5 steering boss adaptor from a company in Michegan on Monday and the package was on my doorstep by the time I got home Wednesday (thanks Mr. Fedex )

Anyone managed a quicker delivery?

Wondered why we have not seen you lately, would like to see some pics of those shiny turbos when you've fitted them.

Your man Ash in Tampa is an absolute star too. Ordered hub/ac sensors/bunch of filters Friday evening UK time, on my doorstep Monday morning UK time....

Elapsed time, longer. Working time, hmmm... it's too late to do the maths properly with time differences, but I'd guess slightly shorter. It took the (name witheld) UK supplier over a week just to call me back to tell me they would have to order it in at twice the price.

Really sorry to see the pics of your vette and of course the offending screw in the original post - I hope it isn't to expensive to fix the bottom end. I hadn't realised the level of damage when you posted the "blown turbo" thread some time back. Good luck with the rebuilds, I'd like to see them at a meet sometime soon.

Ordered from Classic Indusries about 9pm uk, (2pm california ?) UPS at my doorstep 11am next day....

All US companies I've dealt with could show UK firms a great deal about customer service.. Haven't bought anything but basic service parts in Uk for ages.

Er.....unless you know something I don't I hope that is Brett's LT5 block with added screw....

I think the screw was one of these max power 'look it'll add 30hp' mods.

Apparently it is claimed to better turbulencerate the mixture in the cylinder, producing more efficiency and more power.

A number of testimonial letters are available on request, including Mr E. Deothead of Swindon

'I fitted this screw to my LT5 and now the car is so powerful it is orbitting the earth as we speak - I'm buying one of these screws for my wife's Corsa now!'
