I can't believe I'm having to ask this; in the past I've rebuilt engines from scratch with an adjustable wrench and a hammer, stripped gearboxes at the side of the road with a Raleigh bike spanner, rebuilt rear axles with a Leatherman and modified Holley 4 barrels with only my teeth, but anyway......

Just bought an Optimate battery for the Z06 (because it looks ) and now need to install it. Will removing the old battery mess up the the mapping for the FI, alarm etc, along with any other memories? The handbook says to consult the service manual, but I can't find any mention of this on the numerous pdf.'s that I've got. Do I have to run a fly lead to maintain voltage during the change-over?

What have you all done? It can't be that complicated, surely?

You should be ok. When my car was at the NEC last year, I disconnected the battery but every time I had to get into the boot I had to reconnect it. I must have done this dozens of times with no ill effects whatsoever.

Check whether there's a code on the radio and whether you have it.

Presumably for security reasons?

As per Lucifer's post, the only issue is the radio code, if you have one. Other than that you will have no problem, I disconnect my battery whenever I do anything serious, as the computer can get touchy about electrical changes otherwise.

The reason was that the doors were constantly being opened and closed for 3 days and as its Auto, I didn't want problems at the end of the show with the interior lights using all the juice.
No-one could nick it as it was hemmed in by numerous other cars and stands.
