Had the Hurst Shifter fitted yesterday to my Z06 - a vast improvement.
The same shifter can also be fitted to stock manual C6 Corvettes too.

Very good instructions, exact step by stap guide with the size of tools required too. All done in an hour. New shifter much quicker, more precise, not a chance of getting false neutrals any more.

Cool... I want to put that shifter on my Z06 when it arrives in a few weeks.

Where did you get your Hurst Shifter from and how much was it? I may as well order mine now.

I ordered it from LG Motorsports in the USA.
Cost $229, plus $162 for UPS postage. (Thats about £210)
Then there was some import duty when it got here, negligible amount can't remember how much.
You should be able to order one through a UK Yank Parts supplier too, try WASP 01945 588091 and ask for Chris Goodale.

Have fun!

Is there still an amazingly tight 'demon key' to extract from the original C6 gearknob like on the C5 ?

Not sure what a demon key is, but nothing was difficult to remove or refit as part of the shifter swap. It was the easiest work on a car I've ever done! Didn't even cut myself!

It was the wedge-shaped piece of metal jammed in the top of the gear knob to secure the knob from coming off. You needed to lever them out with a lot of force. 95% of them were really, really secure, the other 5% were merely difficult to extract !

I read the thread earlier chaps and contacted Chris who developed the Hurst shifter for the ZR-1 and asked for some advice on C5 and C6 shifters, heres his mail hope this throws some more light on the subject.

mail said:

Hi Cliff, yes I am involved with two shifters. Realize the same shifter is used for all C6 models, and C5 shifters also fit C6s. I am involved, like prior models, with the Hurst shifters, however I recommend my new product, the MTI Racing Six Shooter Shifter. Unlike the Hurst which is based off of existing Camaro shifter parts, the Six Shooter design was entirely from scratch to my liking, and is unique in various ways from other aftermarket shifters. It has only been out for about a month, but is already getting good reviews on Corvette Forum. Currently I have an exclusive agreement with MTI Racing on them, and so I can't sell them myself, but I manage the production and engineering side. You can learn more about the shifter at:

www.mtiracing.com/artmaverick/sixshootershifte.html

Be sure to click on the FAQ link for more shifter info. There is a new competition version about to come out that does not require core parts from the stock shifter. I have not yet installed one, but based on the current unit I think it will be about the same but more robust. I will install one by early next week. If you want one of those, let me know and we'll work something out. Or if you want a Hurst, I can help you there too.

mmm interesting stuff. Think I'll have to have a real think about whether to go for the Hurst or the 6 Shooter I Guess one consideration is how easy the installation is.

I've also read good things on the Corvette Forum about the Callaway quick shift.

I've had Prodrive quick shift on my Prodrive Impreza and AC Schnitzer quick shift on my M3 and liked both of them.

If the C6 box is anything like the ZF on my C4, I will be looking to buy one of these kits for my forthcoming Z06; the question is which one?

A word of warning; make sure that you order Part Number HUU-1630156 (6 speed spherical gearknob in black) if you go for the Hurst Shifter for the Z06 or stock C6.

The stock gearknob is shaped inside to fit the factory stock shift lever, which has a square end and no thread; the Hurst lever is round in section and threaded at the end. The stock gearknob can be used, there is a hole drilled in the side of the hurst shift lever to secure the stock gearknob with a torx head screw, but the shift knob rattles and vibrates really annoyingly at the top end of the shaft.
I should be receiving the Hurst Shift knob in the next day or two, which is threaded to match the Hurst Shift lever, and will solve the noise.

Ordered the shift knob from Summit Racing on www.summitracing.com
Total cost including shipping was $57.34

Please will you show me your shifter Chris, now that I have something to compare it to?

Let me know if you want to do some joint shots sometime between now and mid-August too.

Sure, but you'll have to wait for a week or so as I picked up a nail in the right front and another in the right rear while in France last week.
There are no tyres stock or otherwise to fit C6 Z06 in the UK at all.
I am trying desparately to get hold of some replacements as i am supposed to be racing at he Mopar Nationals this Saturday / Sunday and test the new shifter, was hoping for a high 11....not any more though as it is looking more and more like next week for the tyres.

Unless you are feeling generous enough to lend me your wheels for the weekend?!?

I didn't realise until reading another forum that the Z06 doesn't have a spare tyre. I know you can drive 100 miles on the 'run flats which is useful. I guess I'll buy a couple of spares.

Where did you order your tyres from ??

Well I found that North Hants Tyres offered the best prices for a full set of the stock Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar run flats at £310+VAT for the 325/30 ZR19 rears and £265+VAT for the 275/35 ZR18 fronts, plus shipping at approx £70 per tyre, but couldn't get them here before next week. They are on 01252 318666, or go to www.northhantstyres.com

However, Black Circles who couldn't get the rear tyres at all showed me a price of £200 each for the fronts, in stock. www.blackcircles.co.uk

But all I need is a single front tyre and a single rear tyre by Saturday, and it was Stratstone that came up with the goods, they blagged their Dutch HQ who have an "emergency set" in stock, so they are shipping one of each over to their Milton Keynes workshop for Friday. I'll collect them Saturday, have them fitted, and then head to Santa Pod.
Beware of Stratstones prices though, the reason i am only buying one of each is that they want £395.63+VAT for the front and a whopping £643.44+VAT for the rear!

An absolutely ridiculous price, but I really want to test the car with Hurst Shifter, plus the Mopar Nationals is a whole weekend event camping over on Saturday with a bunch of my fellow UK Street Racer Series competitors (always a laugh), so on this occasion it's a price I'm willing to pay just to be there. I could tow my Sylva Fury up there and race that, but it's not American and I'd feel a little bit wrong racing that at this event knowing the Z06 could've been part of it.

Oh, I forgot to say that I found official Goodyear Suppliers in the USA that could do the tyres for about $450 each (weirdly, same price for front and rear). That's about £245 each, but then you've got shipping which isn't cheap given the size and mass of each tyre, and Import Duty to add on when they get to the UK.

Hurst Shift Knob arrived today, like a black Pool Ball with thread, and 6 speed shift pattern in the top.

Looks nice, free Summit racing cap too!

Will fit it tonight and see whether it solves the rattle from the stock shift knob.
