my engine is in a plane!!!!!
Discussion
Not enough to power an airplane, but I got not bad numbers from Marc, comparing my engine to a recently built cammed 415.
torque in ft/lbs
rpm 2000 3000 4000 5000
415 stage III cams 200 300 420 470
My engine 383 415 457 498
top torque is well over 500 ft/lbs at 5200 rpm, and top horsepower a bit shy of 600 at 6600 rpm. The great news is that my curve shows over 400 lb/ft of torque from 2800 rpm all over the curve to the red line, and all this revving easier than a 415. The cammed 415 really takes off over 5500 rpm, there those engines produce more power, deep into the 600hp range.
And the dyno runs were made under 84 degrees F. I suspect in a cold winter day my engine would be producing over 600hp too, time will tell.
Let's say I am VERY satisfied, just waiting the engine to clear customs (it arrived yestarday to the airport) and install it....
