Camaro officially confirmed for 2008 production

Awesome! Mine's got to be at least LS7 or LS9 powered, and in black with a 6 speed.
You can keep your Mustang GT500s, this baby will scortch the dragstrip and with IRS, will actually go round corners too. Can't wait to see the spy shots of it tearing up the Nurburgring and killing Porsches!
GM Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner announced today that GM will the Chevrolet Camaro and it will be almost identical to the concept shown at the North American International Auto Show.
"The overwhelmingly enthusiastic response to the Camaro Concept continues to remind me of the uniquely iconic place our products can have in customers' hearts," Wagoner said. "Camaro is much more than a car; it symbolizes America's spirit and its love affair with the automobile."
The all-new Camaro will begin with early production versions at the end of 2008 and will go on sale in the first quarter of 2009. "The new Camaro will be almost identical to the concept, a thoroughly modern interpretation of the 1969 model, considered by many to be the best design of the car's first generation," said Ed Welburn, GM's global vice president of design, who owns a 1969 Camaro SS. The front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sport coupe will feature an independent rear suspension, and will be offered in a variety of models with the choice of manual and automatic transmissions and V-6 and V-8 engines.
"We intend to make the all-new Camaro relevant to younger buyers while retaining its appeal to current fans," said Peper. "The beauty of the best Camaros is that they have always been beautiful to look at with performance that rivals expensive European GTs. Yet they were practical enough to drive every day and priced within the reach of many new-car buyers."

I like the front end, reminds me of the 69 1st Gen model, which was the best shape of any Musclecar. FX rate is going up to $2 per £ by the end of the year, start changing your Pounds up into Dollars now my fellow Pistonheads!

I think the whole car looks very 1st generation Camaro. Likewise not over keen on the front end preferring the most beautiful muscle car ever built the 2nd generation Z28/RS. Not that I am biased in any way. see mine on the link below

Thankfully both Chevy and Dodge have realised that Ford screwed up with the mustang by not putting the haunches over the rear wheels keeping the legendary coke bottle shape. I could never work out what I did not like about the Mustang until a good mate who's a photographer pointed it out.

And like Ford won't put that right when they restyle the Mustang in 2008.
I have to say that initially I didn't like this Camaro but like anything radically different, it has grown on me substantially to the point where I rather like it as much as the Mustang and Challenger. That's the trick with radical designs, something new you haven't seen before, whatever it's inspiration. And no, the C6 still hasn't grown on me and never will.

LuS1fer - someone's stolen you logon ID. Surely that's not really you coming around to the Camaro?
Sorry chap, couldn't resist.
Likewise, hoping Ford pull out all the stops with the next generation Mustang. Not that the standard car isn't very desirable. And without the success of the Mustang, you can bet your bottom dollar there wouldn't be a new Camaro or Challenger.

I think it's got the meanest, angriest looking front end of any car for many a year.
It looks stunning and you're all wrong and I'm right. So there

This is a tricky car. "Angriest"?. There's the rub. The front view has the grille which is upturned and smiling, not angry. Then you have the air intake which is downturned. The front is a juxtaposition and just does not sit comfortably, may just need an inch here or there. In the GM show photo from about front 3/4s, the rear starts to downtun and cut in , promisingly, and yet from the the door onwards it seem to baloon out and up, looks wrong. The other front 3/4 taken from further forward and lower down makes the car look fantastic. The aerial shot makes the car look fantastic. So I don't know. But good on them for a radical approach, maybe the C7 designers will take the hint and end up with something radical like the C4 or C3, or indeed the c2 or c1.5

Sadly I think being a Camaro addict and having had such great experiences with them, I think it was partly inevitable I would have to like it. I'd already conceded to my mates in the American car club that I'd probably have to buy one based on the fact it was a Camaro. With a 400bhp LS2 and a 500bhp LS7, the deal would be done on the basis that the Challenger is going to be a lot heavier.

,any chance of giving it a better front end
