I test drove a Z06 at Stratstone Reading today.
It was absolutely amazing, for the first time in my life I was left genuinely speechless.
It was like two cars, one that pootled round town easily enough, and then a rampant beast when I put my foot down on roads that I knew.
I was amazed that the steering was as light as it was, I'd expected it to be heavier. The HUD was brilliant, I don't think I looked at the actual dashboard during whole drive.
I think I want one.

I had mine today (Saturday). I have to say I was never mightily impressed with the C5 (sorry about the heresy)and as I have a LS2 in my rebadged Monaro a C6 was out of the question.
The Z06 is something else - it behaved normally around Reading and then produced a tremendous performance on motorways in 'road' mode with the utmost ease. The most impressive thing was that I could not make it slide even with slightly worn rear tyres. In fact it was embarassing in the sharp bend where the M4 joins the A329 as I booted it hard and aligned the offside wheels on the rumble strip to measure the slide to the left but the wheels stayed firmly on the strip to the discomfort of my Stratstone passenger. Other major features excellent heads up and superb seats .
Criticisms - being picky only - the carbon fibre boot separator available in the States should be standard - the exhaust is too quiet it needs a Wortec to produce an appropriate V8 rumble -the car does not like concrete motorways from a ride handling or noise perspective but this may be due to the worn tyres.
All in all a fantastic experience and my warmest thanks to the wonderful people in Stratstone - I would not like to be a passenger with me test driving.

I think you'll find the Z06 more than a match for any untuned Cerbera. 0-60 in 3.7s and 0-100 in 7.9s, standing 1/4 in 11.7 @ 125mph are extraordinary figures for a standard car!
In Competitive Driving Mode or with all aids off, it is also more than slidey enough...
Totally agree about the road noise, it is pretty horrible over concrete.
Exhaust noise is greatly improved by taking the flap fuse out (or fitting a switch to leave it open except when cruising).
Come over to the Dark Side; the Monaro is great if you need 4 seats, but otherwise the Z06 utterly destroys it!

I cannot agree with the speed comparisons with a red rose uncatted Cerbera 4.5 in full tune as ours is (and no one has ever got by in a straight run) but this is missing the point. The Corvette has equivalent performance and you can use it every day in 'road' mode and then revert to sport mode when appropriate. You cannot do this with a Cerbera it is all or nothing. The Corvette is a fantastic machine. Watch this space. Best regards
