Caterham Cars site in Caterham...

I wonder if the Caterham car owners would be interested in lending their support to this campaign by joining the group below or objecting to the plans to develop their current site - especially the local owners!... (They intend to turn the site in to sheltered housing).... Caterham residents don't want to lose the cars from the town and feel very passionately about this. Please support if you can. Thank you

The Nearns own the site so it is their to do as they please - subject to planning, of course.
They have track record on this. The original Caterham Cars site was outside the town at Caterham on the Hill. It was badly damaged in the storm of 1987 and around the same time the factory moved to their present location in Dartford, Kent. The old site was redeveloped as flats but with retail units below the flats within which Caterham Cars had a small showroom and offices. That was where I bought my Caterham in 1996.
A year or so later they acquired their current site in the town centre.
I had a brief chat with a Caterham person a few months ago and they said that even if they have to leave where they are, they would like to be resited if at all possible somewhere else in the town. There are certainly enough vacant sites in Caterham which could be developed. However, it all depends on then financial commitment required.

That's why I can't see what all the fuss is about. It's not exactly a heritage site.
I think it makes sense for Caterham to have a presence in Caterham, but the corperate bods don't seem to be bothered about heritage.
I do think they need more space than they have on the hill. Definately more frontage for display purposes.
