Hello all
Just wondering what is happening on the used market?
I have one for sale myself (mods- feel free to remove / re-direct- but this is not a blatant sales tactic) in the PH classifieds and had quite a bit of interest initially- but literally nothing in the last 6 weeks or so.
Fortunately I am not desperate to sell- but just wondering whether interest in this market sector has fallen or maybe my car just isn't attractive or over-priced?
Are others seeing the same?

Strange, there's nothing that sticks out as being "wrong" with the car, looks very nice. Does it have any other "bits"? Is it widetrack? Have big brakes? Quick rack? If so, it's worth putting them in the advert.
Now that we are in June, perhaps the spring buying flourish has finished. Depends on where you are with price, if you dropped it £500 and got into the 12's that might make a difference. Not saying you need to, but to me that would make it a super buy.

It's certainly a strange one in this case I reckon. It's a popular model in a strong colour, well specced with all the bits you'd want at what I'd say was already a bargain price. This caught my eye when it first came to market and I expected it to be one of those that sold within the first couple of weeks (you can pay me the fiver later!)
It's true that the market is pretty slow at the top and bottom end of the price range, and substantially modified cars are always harder to shift, but generally speaking the 'right' cars in the £14-18K bracket seem to be moving on quite well.
Have you tried a For Sale entry on Blatchat?

Still little or no interest to date- I am guessing that the weather probably isn't helping the overall market?
It is certainly frustrating me- as it is nice to 'still' have the car- but the constant weather is hardly condusive to blatting of an evening!
Does one need to be a 7-club member to advertise on Blatchat? I didn't renew last time as I knew the car would be (very sadly!) moving on....
Personally I expect the car to be appealing- it ticks most of the aesthetic boxes- colour, black-pack- carbon wings etc... But also spec.-wise it is still largely standard with a reliable (touch-wood!) & proven engine that could provide a good base for significant upgrades to any buyer's chosen requirement.
I have already lowered the price by £750 since first marketed back in March- so I will hold as it is for now.
Will just have to sit & see what happens and hope we get some sunshine so I can actually use it whilst I still have it!

I just bought a caterham a couple of days ago and have been scanning the ads for the last couple of months. Cars seem to be coming and going, though things do seem have slowed up in last 2 wks. Personally, I've been eyeing Europe 'going to hell in a handcart again' which isn't exactly creating an encouraging environment for those considering a big frivolous purchase. Think this could well be a factor, combined with the long absence of any summer.
The chap I bought the car off had it on at a good price, then dropped it by £1.5k just as I phoned him - he said reason was there had been no interest at all. So I got the car for what I think is a really good price. Especially as now I've had time to take a really good look at it, I cant believe the condition - for 2003 it's immaculate. I'm terrified to drive it now in case underneath gets dirty ... !
Caterham themselves had a similar-ish car up for sale with more miles and in quite a tatty state (except re-spray) for £6k more. They were prepared to move on the price, but when I suggested fixing all the problems and knocking £4k off the price, there weren't interested.

Oh all right them. Ended up paying £16.5k for a 2003 roadsport SV 1.8 vvc with 11,000 miles, 6 speed, LSD, 15" wheels, superlight suspension, dry sump, brake upgrade(?) leather seats, start button and battery master, momo, uprated brakes (?) and a fire extinguisher. From my brief-but-intensive searching this looked pretty good, but couldn't have held out much longer anyway as the yearning was taking over...............

I recently bought a low mileage CSR260..and have been looking for a while..I was only contemplating Duratec engined cars..mainly because of potential resale values...and reliability issues attributed to the K-Series ..gounded on reality or not..and I will be using this solely for track day use..so the engine needed to be bullet proof..hence the Cosworth..
The Duratec engined cars seem to get sold very quickly..
I must say that I find Caterham prices all over the place.and was not confident of knowing if I had a good price or not..so went for something with a very well known spec and pretty rare..and something that I would not want to modify..so the CSR it was..
I also found Caterham's dealer prices about £5,000 above the private sellers price..and with such a simple car, there did not seem much risk associated with a private purchase..what you see is what you get..

I was looking at the used CSRs on the Caterham site too - if these are anything to go by, prices seem even stronger than for the S3 with CSR200 prices close to original new price. Great choice if I may say so - love the CSRs. On my list as a future upgrade if I get on with the roadsport ...vertew said:

Funny that, they offered me a pretty poor price for my year old R400 with 1300 miles 
Not tried to advertise it, not sure where to pitch it.

Excellent, nice buy!Still little or no interest... Have dropped price to £12995 to see if that generates more leads...
Down £1250 from original asking price.
If that doesn't work, I reckon I will hold onto it- happy days!
I just need to work out how to tell the wife she might need to go back to work after 6 months maternity leave rather than the 12 months originally planned!!! ;-)
