How to quieten signal beeper/buzzer ?
Discussion
Having just purchased a 2006 caterham, I was pleasantly surprised to find an audible alert for when the indicator is on. Where as this is great on open roads at speed, I've found it a tad embarrassing in slow traffic or town. Even had a fellow 7 owner tell me to turn it off at junctions
Anyone found a way to quieten this buzzer ? Where is it located, as worse case I can wrap some tape round it to quieten it ?
Having had similar setup for indicators (without beeper) on an Atom, many owners installed a tweaked switch that would always spring back to centre, but blinked indicators 3 times, or 7 times if switch lever kept left or right for 2 secs. Any 7 owners gone a similar route ?
Cheers Dave

I went down the route of fitting a buzzer to my '92 car and agree with you that it became a pain in town and slow moving traffic. I binned that and purchased an indicator self-cancelling module similar to the one you describe. I then found that to be a nuisance as well. You'd press the switch for a short burst as you anticipated a quick manoeuvre and then find things took longer and now you were aware that you weren't indicating at the crucial moment. Other times it would be the reverse and you'd be fiddling around to turn it off. In all, I found it to be a real distraction to driving, so returned to just the good old fashioned toggle switch. When I rebuilt the car in 2007/08 I fitted a bright LED for the indicator warning light which has helped.

Looks like it is quite hard to find.

If you find the indicators so complicated never look at riding a bike
no self cancelling and instant test failure for leaving it on too long.
Agreed, but it seems to be a bit easier to remember when our life depends on it.

OK only got around to resolving this tonight.
- undo 2 nuts at back of rev counter, holding it in place
- pull rev counter out and find 10mm offending device about 80mm along loom from back of rev counter
- bit of insulation tape wrapped around device has quietened noise down.
Literally less than 5 mins
Now, how long before I forget indicators are still on

I need to do this with my new Superlight Twenty too!
I did have one on my white R500, but it did not seem so loud so got use to it.
This one on my Twenty however is crazy loud, so I need to get it reduced or ideally removed.
I had my daughter Lucy out for a few trips yesterday, and every time I had the indicators on she complained they were too loud and put her fingers in her ear!
Not managed to find any photos, on here or blatchat, so when I get it sorted I will make sure I post them up here and on my blog too, so that others might find it an easier fix!
Will keep you posted when I get around to fixing this little issue!

just ordered an eBay one, that has a programmable duration before it sounds the buzzer - so you can have it client for junctions, but if you leave it on when on the open road, it then beeps at you. Still to fit it, maybe later today, but evidently it's just an inline addition in the circuit.

Looks like a good option, but I want to get rid of the annoying noise on mine completely if possible.£12.50

Like all BMW drivers I rarely use my indicators at all!,

I'm still trying to find the offending noisy beeper, but can't locate it.- undo 2 nuts at back of rev counter, holding it in place

Can you recall what it looks like? I'm assuming it's like s small panel buzzer.
I have the Rev counter, speedo, wash and wipe switches out, but can't spot anything?
I have found a larger black box, which was the course of another rattle, it was loose above the tubing for the wipers, it had Velcro tape on it, but the sticky part had not been removed, so did that and secured it to the bullhead to stop the rattle, it was about the size of a cigarette packet, but I don't thanks that's the beeper.
Also found two 4 pin relays, removed them to see if they were connected, but did. It stop the beep.
Just looking for any more experience people may have, it's driving me nuts.,
Also resurrected an old thread on blatchat too, to see if anyone else has done it more recently.,
Right an update for you all.
After days of searching,,removing switches, gauges, feeling and poking I was ready to give up.
Then a very kind man called Darren Cheesbrough sent me a message, and said he found his behind the speedo.
So I popped the speedo out, turned on the indicators and there it was.
No wonder it's so hard to find, it's tiny , smaller than a five pence peice.
Can't decide if to tape it up or just cut one wire, but I am very relived to have found it!
Here's the offending bleeper!
