Solutions for making my driving position more comfortable!

Afternoon all.

Just back from an outing in the Caterham. Issue is that it is getting more and more uncomfortable to join.

In current trim my car is a long cockpit with these seats:



Steering wheel is as follows:





Problem is my knees are under the dash and the wheel, small as it is, catches on legs.


Options:

Lowered floor.
Re-drilling the steering wheel such that it sits higher.
Changing to S type seats (I have one in the attic!).

Forget tillets as I am big boned! Just under 6'2".

Anyone have any ideas?

I'm no waif-like shrinking violet either, but I've got Tillet-a-likes in the Crossflow and, although a bit edgey in the kidney area, overall they're a massive improvement on boingy seats.
Have you tried one for size/comfort?

As posted in the BlatChat thread, I really do recommend bench seats - way, way more comfortable...
They need to well sculptured as the default is not at all good!

Honestly, made a world of difference to me, and all that have sat in Eugene comment on how comfortable the seats are!

Are the pedals as far forward as they can go ?? I wouldn't have thought 6'2" was too tall for a Caterham

"Big boned" shouldn't make any difference for tillets. But I apreciate they're not everyone's cup of tea. Have you thought about a "Bag Seat" ?
Other than that, get an SV, or CSR and some CSR tillets....

ETA, and get a propper steering wheeel!

MOG Racing build a bigger Tilllet and it fits in an S3.

Won't the S-type seats make it worse as the front bolster will push your knees up even higher A bench seat should give you more room but might be less comfortable than your current one. Lowering the floor sounds your best bet

I am slightly more than an inch taller than you and have an S3 (2004 R300) with standard Caterham composite seats (with pads), a normal steering wheel and lowered floors: I have lots and lots of room - to the extent that I don't have the seat all the way back...I am not big boned though...

Bag seat, and if that doesn't work, lowered floor. I have both, and am finally properly comfortable in my 1994 S3. I'm 6'3 and just under 15 stone.

CF solutions sell the mixture for the bag seat, £12ish. Put it in a binbag, sit in it, get pleasant warm feeling around the nads. Search blatchat for better how to instructions Or like I did - pay someone to do it properly first time (I had made 'interesting' efforts at bag seats before )
