help finding a caterham please, my car is sold

hi all. my mnr has now been sold to a chap from south of france so am now in the market for my first caterham. ive been asking various questions on here,but now im ready to buy.
i have a budget of £10k (possibly a tad more for the right one) so if you know of one for sale or are selling i am very interested. thanks all.

Visit blatchat.com and have a look at the For Sale forum, occasionally one or two pop up on there. Bought mine on PistonHeads, as you probably know, steer WELL clear of Autotrader.

You will probably have to do a bit of travelling to find a decent one as they are few and far between.

thanks, ive already been put in touch with this car,and its not quite to my taste. im after cycle wings as opposed to clamshell and slightly more power if at all possible on my budget!

ive seen a new advert on pistonheads of an academy spec car. 120 bhp 1.6 k series. does anyone know the full spec of these cars? as i was originally after a more road focussed car instead of race car. cheers

Academy cars are great intro Caterhams. They are either 1600 K series (120 bhp) or Simga cars (125 bhp) for the later series (07 or 08 onwards). They are road registered, have full lights, windscreen, narrow track, open diff (3.92), standard brakes etc. K series cars are usually a bit quicker than the Sigma ones but either are excellent first time caterhams. Buy on condition and spec (some of them have been upgraded if they are not used in their race series). Standard spec was for a drivers seat only so the passenger side was optional as were belts.

Also meant to say they make good road cars if they aren't too battered (or even if they are and you aren't bothered about the "patina"). Several friends have had ex-academy cars inc myself and used them as road cars with the odd trackday and european tour thrown in for good measure

No, although some have been upgraded retrospectively. A number of cars have had LSD's fitted for the sprint series and trackday fun. Its about a grand to fit a Titan unit into your own open diff by the time the new seals are sorted too. Looking in the classifieds and seeing that R500 powered Roadsport A, anything is possible but it means some serious investment is needed! Secondhand 6 speed box is around £1500 and big brakes £500 plus a good afternoon to fit.
