Is it just because they are outnumbered or is it bacause owners hang on to them?

I suspect the latter. Plus none of us are getting any smaller - speaking for myself of course.

If I was using the car for track days only I would have an S3 with lowered floors. As I mostly use mine on the road with a passenger I like the additional space of the SV. If I was doing it again though I would still have the lowered floor.

I thought the SV less skittish on the road as well.

Don't forget that the CSR is also built to SV dimensions and they come up from time to time.

Really enjoying my CSR260 much better on the road than the de dion. Now that I'm not going to have that much chance to do trackdays it is ideal.

I'd almost suggest unless you are just doing trackdays the SV/CSR is the only way to go. I can hardly get in a narrow body easily, need to wear pixie boots and have to be very friendly with the passenger. SV/CSR aren't that much bigger but you can use them far more easily.

I think it is several factors that mean they are normally in short supply:

1) they only started building them in 2000 so there are fewer around
2) they still make more S3s than SV/CSR.
3) they get driven more - when they come up they are often higher mileage, and that means they may be owners for longer (or just get more use - as has been said, they are great for touring).

Taking this all into account they come up for sale as often as other models - it just feels like they don't.

I suspect if you wanted a Specific S3 (say a JPE or HPC) then they would seem even rarer..
