My first Caterham - some questions

Hi All,

Sold my Chimaera on Friday and picking up a Caterham Superlight R on Wednesday, can't wait!

My experiences of Caterhams to date has been a few trackdays in BookaTrack's Superlights (thanks Jonny, can thoroughly recommend it!)

The car will need a service and considering rolling road set-up and perhaps roller throttle bodies etc. Can anyone suggest a good specialist near Tonbridge, Kent?

Minister at Rochester? They built the engine after all....but they don't have a rolling road IIRC. Ask for Graeme Fuller - top man in my book.

Save your money for now.

Have the car serviced and perhaps get Minister to flat floor it for you (and with you on hand). Also let them know how you like a car to handle (understeer, neutral, OVERSTEER) etc.

Then take it out and enjoy it.

I don't believe the roller barrels will make a shed load of difference to the drive. Certainly not as much as setting it up to handle to your liking will.

If the car has the old style SLR inlet set up as supplied by Caterham prior to roller barrels, I think your best bet would probably be to get an emerald and Jenvey TBs. I'm pretty sure that it'll be cheaper overall (including set up costs) and the results will be all but identical. Car may even run more nicely with the latter set up, will sound great and you can ask for proper flames.

Inclined to agree the roller throttles will make damn all difference particularly if you are a novice with a seven. There has been some debate as to whether they actually make the car any better. Money better spent at this stage on flat floor set-up, a roller session with standard mechanicals , a nice set of tyres and plenty of tracktime. get to know the car and ask other enthusiasts and what they recommmend first.
