cat c 2007 caterham roadsport value
Discussion
just trying to gauge how much of an impact a cat c has against the value of a caterham
the car in question is a 2007 metric roadsport 1.6
20k miles, 5 service stamps in the book including post build check.
caged chassis number 001!
56 plate, registered feb 07
original color viper blue, (can be painted any color, was thinking of lotus f1 scheme??)
spec is leather seats with caterham quick release harnesses and brand new caterham blue harness pads
quick release momo steering wheel
tacho shift light
15inch 10 spoke caterham anthracite alloy wheels
wilwood big brake kit on the front
heater
heated screen
carbon front cycle wings
carbon sill protectors
carbon arch protectors
full weather gear, hood, full doors, tonneau, mirrors
apollo tank
5 speed box and 1.6 k series with brand new head gasket, cambelt, head bolts, plugs
lowered floors
battery cut off
adjustable rear anti roll bar
modified std roll hoop with x diagonal made from t45 steel
roadsport b upgrade stamp in the book
car was involved in a low speed front end impact and damage was limited to the front end of the chassis only.
the car has been stripped down, and a professional full long front repair has been carried out, all dimensions were jigged from another metric chassis and checked once the front chassis repair was completed. all dimensions are spot on. the rest of the car was inspected once stripped and no further damage was caused, everything is perfect. car has had new side skins fitted as part of the repair, and awaits paint. the car can be painted in any color scheme. many new caterham parts used for the repair.
the repair and build has been documented with photos so the repair can be clearly seen from start to finish.
going on what similar cars are selling for with no official crash damage recorded i would say with no history this would be a £15-16k car, the car has all the desirable parts that people want, and has been professionally stripped and rebuilt within the last 6 months. a totally honest car that you can see the entire history of.
what sort of money would people estimate it would be worth just before summer 2013.
obviously the cat c will affect the value, but by how much im not sure, at the end of the day a long front repair on a caterham isnt exactly a difficult or major repair, and im sure there are many cars out there selling for top money which never had crash damage declared and so have no cat c recording, this car you can see exactly what has been repaired, and it will be at a reduced price over a non cat c car.
just trying to gauge wether i will keep the car for myself and build back up to a spec that i want, or continue to rebuild to the above spec and sell. all depends on the value really. if the value is hit to hard then i could sell the desirable parts and make the car a track toy or race car.
i have also had a few offers for the car as is so just want to guage what the final value will be once complete and if its worth doing.
many thanks for any opinions

Im in the trade and if anyone tries to px anything that is on the list , If it is repaired to a high standard I always value it at 2/3rd of the price of the equivalent undamaged vehicle, anything cat c/d will be more difficult to sell but there is always a buyer on a tight budget that will snap up a bargain .
for reference i saw a crash damaged caterham same age same engine but far less spec, sell on copart for £9k the other week, the car had a smashed rear de dion tube, and a wack to the front side of the chassis which would warrant a similar long front repair. it was also not including any parts for the repair, and was sold as a salvage vehicle! it was also high mileage at approx 40k miles!
when taking into consideration this car is fully repaired and the long front repair section and side panels alone cost £1200 in parts! plus another £1500 spent on required parts for the repair, then paint of around £500 it just shows the sort of money they stand at once repaired. taking into consideration of the above example if u bought that at 9k then spent the £3200 repairing it, it would stand you at ££12200. which gives a saving of around 3-4k over an unrecorded example.
i was hoping for £13k for this example which puts it £3-4k cheaper than an undamaged example. if it were me buying, i would think that was a good price?
if thats not a price i am going to achieve then i need to rethink the route im taking, and as said de spec the car and make into an entry level metric caterham and sell on the desirable parts. or convert into a track toy/academy car?
thoughts?
cheers

This can be a difficult one, albeit more to sell rather than buy.
It depends on what someones willing to pay, some people wouldnt have a worry with buying a second hand caterham that had a long front (prefferably using the manafacturers/ caterham!) but you'll be aiming at a smaller market as most caterham buyers, and without doubt most car buyers would preffer a non damaged car.....mainly due to keeping better residuals and not having a limited resale market thats in discussion now, as im sure you'll know.
Now this small market of the people willing to buy a damaged car as above have either a good idea of the car there buying....enthusiast, dealer, mechanic etc, but then comes the fact that as they now know the acutal worth of the car in this state, what people will pay, the small market of people willing to buy and all the rest of it they wont want to pay top dollar so 2/3 of price is a fair valuation.
Then there's an even smaller part of the small market that would be willing to buy the car on a cat d or c, if they even knew what that meant for the actual price you advertise it at!
Its in the hands of the gods! there have been a few caterhams for sale over the years that have been a high price to begin with then dropped to a real world price, then up again. A certain vauxhall engined car with front and rear wing, springs to mind!!
Good luck.
