getting through mot!

Hi all

Just a quick question , I'm running a 2004 1.8 k with around 200bhp, coming up to mot time and the previous owner mentioned something about an 'mot map' to pass the emissions test.

I had a look on the emerald but couldn't see one so just wondering if it's necessary and if so how do I go about getting one (previous owner is hard to get hold of)?

With the later Emerald ECU's, you can have switchable maps that are selected by turning a dial with a maximum of 3 available. So you could have normal road use / track / mot friendly or 97 octane / supermarket fuel (95) / lend to a friend map (when its miraculously limited to 5k revs...)

For the MOT map, it will be set to ensure the car will pass the emissions test which may be a compromise for normal performance. Usually these maps are applied when you take the car for a rolling road test as they can be fairly specific to your set up. Thus saying that, if you can get a suitable map from someone with an identical set up, it is more than possible to load that map on to your ECU to take to the MOT station.
