Oil for your Caterhams?

I notice Caterham themselves seem to recommend the Ford Semi Synthetic stuff for the Sigma and Duratec. How do you guys feel about that?

I was fully intending to use some Fuchs Titan Race Pro for my new Sigma since it's highly regarded as being some of the best oil you can buy. Is there any reason why the engine might be better with Semi Synthetic as opposed to the Ester Synthetic I was planning to buy?

Contentious topic I know

My road car for example is Megane. To keep my warrantee happy I need to have the Renault approved oil, because I know Renault can't complain and not complete warrantee work is the engine went bang. I know the approval costs serious money, so there are better oils that don't have the approval (Fuchs being one of them).

My Caterham on the other hand has no warrantee to upset, so I just want something to keep the engine at it's best

I ran my Sigma engine on the recommended semi synthetic 5w30 for the warranty period, just in case!

Since then I swapped to Mobil 1 5w30 and the oil pressure is definitely better when really hot on a track day, but no higher when cold.
I won't be changing back.

Serious answer:

The higher performance engines ie RXXX and CSRs run on 0-50 synthetic. There is ALOT of chat about this and easters etc on blatchat but generally people stick with the 0W-50 because of the dry sumps. Halfords do one labelled trackday oil, Opie oil do four to choice from(I use their Millers one) and Caterham have there own which is similar to the halfords/millers in make up. If you are doing racing or alot of track work Opie Oil do a better one but it is more expensive.

The other MASSIVE debate is rear diff oil, the general concensus on the sierra diffs is to run a proper EP90 GL5 and NOT a multigrade. The quietest is the genuine Ford oil ( if you have a LSD you will need modifier or the genuine LSD Ford oil now discontinued)Note you do not need LSD oil or modifier if you have the Quaife ATB type of LSD.
