digital dash reccomendations please
Discussion
i am currently building a hayabusa powered caterham and am in the process of researching digital dash systems. i have relatively little experience with digital dashes apart from my race technology dash 2 which i had on a previous car.
another slight complication is im planning on doing some hillclimbs and sprints next year so some type of data logging may be needed
what would you recommend i should go for and why?
im thinking i need
tacho,
speedo,
gear indicator,
oil press
fuel press
oil temp,
coolant temp,
i have bought loads of darren lukes parts including an older mbe992 ecu which i think has can bus technology, meaning i could possibly use can bus for tacho, and coolant temp. but not sure on this one.
it needs to be neat and tidy and not mega expensive! cheers

I'm currently re-building my SV and chose the Race Technology Dash 2 with DL1 data logger. I've also bought the license and 'magic' LED from them to use my existing bullet camera set-up to sync the data capture to the video.
The new engine is running Emerald K6 ECU and I havd a loom built specifically for the set up rather than splicing and dicing with the old one. Just got to the point of firing up all the elements at once and I'm impressed so far in terms of how much the systems talk to each other before even loading the set-up files etc . .. Still a long way to go . . The ECU provides the data on revs, throttle position, water temp etc and the DL1 provides the data for the speedo etc. I went with Dash 2, just in case one day I decided to make the car road legal rather than Dash3 which wouldn't be suitable.
Can't say how this will all operate as a going concern, which I am sure others will be able to, but the support and back up from Race Technology has been good so far, the knowledge base is useful on their site and so far so good. Plus all the research I did on price 'v' performance and user interface keeps coming out with Race technnology as the preferred choice for me.
Race technology do the package of data logger and Dash option as you probably know and depending on how quickly you need all the elements I'd wait until the Autosport show if you can and get a further discount. Last year I spent a lot, but needed several elements and with normal discounts of 10% plus it more than covers the price of entry and travel depending on how many items you do or do not want .. . .
Excuse merde phone pic . .

I have an AIM MXL on my car, with all data coming via CAN bus from the ECU. Not cheap, but can log, which is useful in conjunction with the ECU logging if you have any issues.
Fully programmable in terms of what fields you see, warning light uses/thresholds, shift lights, etc.
The more modern OLED screens literally allow you to design your own virtual dashboard, with auto selection of pages as a function of warm up, low oil pressure, oil temp increases, etc, etc.
Depends how much you'd like to spend versus what you feel is a must have and what is a nice to have in terms of functionality.
I think there are some AIM/Motec dash type products around for circa £500.
