I am at present, venting crankcase breathers, 1 from crankcase and 1 from oil filler cap into oil collector, that breaths to atmosphere via small filter, i am collecting about a pint of oil every 50 miles or so, also the filter allows smoke to pass, this comes out of bonnet vents and looks like a fire!
Question 1...... Is this normal?
Question 2........does it matter
Question 3........caterhams are great aint they?

Sounds to me like bore wear.
It's not normal...
Have you done a compression test?
The other thing to check is that the crank breather is not blocked.

Do a compression test and if OK I would re-plumb the breather so the crankcase breathe into goes into the rocker cover and a new breather from the rear end of the rocker cover goes to the catch tank.

Do you still have the origin oil separator on the breather from the crankcase ?

If the compression test shows signs of wear then I would get that sorted then do the above.

Might also be worth checking your not overfilling the oil level.

I've had both scenarios when I had the X/Flow in, blown piston & ring on 3 occasions, overfilled oil level on 1 occasion...

would deffo be worth doing a compression test to rule the pistone & rings out first.
