R300 noise test

Hi guys,

Plan to get some track time in this year - how do owners find getting through noise testing with an R300?

t's the original K series R300 Superlight on throttle bodies and standard from factory exhaust.

Usual target is less that 100dbs but to my untrained ear this thing sounds fapping loud..!

My car has an R300 K Series engine on TBs like you, with a 4 into 1 R500 exhaust (with decat). At Castle Combe last summer it was measured at 98db which really surprised me, so you may well be fine with it.

Borderline at best with the throttle bodies unfortunately :-(

If the exhaust is in good condition, and the cat is in place, should be OK though.

ah - there is currently no CAT on my car, although I do have it to put back on if neccessary.

Sounds like it's going to be a close run thing - guess I will know the answer at the first track day but I hate turning up in anticipation of a good day on track and then failing the noise test..!

You can get noise tested at a trackday even if you're not taking part. Just pick your closest track , rather than paying up front and failing the test.

RMA are only running one more 'noisy' track day at Donnington this year - after that its a strict 98db drve by limit. I really want to drive Donnington but I can't make the noisy day. Big question is whether my R300 will be under 98db - could risk losing my money if it fails!

I've never had a problem with noise in my K R300. That said I have the R500 titanium silencer fitted, no cat, usually manage best case 92, worst case ever was 96dB at 3/4 revs depending on how old the packing is.
Worth the investment in the bigger silencer especially for more sensitive tracks like Goodwood, you'll never get on at Thruxton though.
