K series megagrad 1.6 question
Discussion
Hi.
I have a eu3 megagrad engine which I have fitted to my MG Midget. It's running well, recently showed 136hp on Aldon's rollers ( it has a 4-1 short exhaust manifold which probably restricts the power?)
I have a few questions about the exact spec:
I believe it is a McMillan engine, but the exact spec is unknown. It has a Motorola ECU, aluminium plenum, etc.
What cams would be fitted?
Solid or hydraulic lifters?
What oil is best? What grade?
I can't find anywhere to fit the Apollo tank, how important is it for track use?
What water temp on track would you consider too hot?
Do you run oil coolers?
That's all for now!
Cheers

I have contacted MMM
They weren't very helpfull, and I'm not sure to take their advice with a pinch of salt.
When talking about oil, was told " was not a very stressed engine"
I would have thought any engine on a track is stressed?
Anyhow, what are recomendations for oil?
Thanks

In addition to Charles comments;
The engine should also have supersport cams
The apollo tank is fitted with pipes to and from a sandwich plate between the oil filter and the casting bolted to the engine
We use a 5/40 fully synthetic (the comma one as recommended by Caterham when they were sponsored by them
) But any good 5/40 or 10/50 fully synth should be fine.
Oil coolers aren't usually required on these engines especially as the Apollo gives another few litres capacity, but in your application one may be. You'll need to monitor the temperature. They normally fit in the same way as the apollo tank
Feel free to ring for a chat if you're unsure, our website is on my profile
