Front Number Plate

I want to fit a slightly smaller front number plate to avoid the partial fitting over the grill.

I have made enquiries with a number of ebay suppliers however their "we supply any size" claims are anything but that, they will all do various designs of show plates but the dimensions are all the same. I have seen a few 7's with motorcycle plates on the front but I feel these are just so small that they are inviting problems.

I would like a plate scaled to about 75% of normal size, this would be much better suited to the space available and to the casual glance would not jump out as anything out of the usual. Can anyone suggest a supplier who can custom produce a plate to the exact size I'm looking for?

http://www.fancyplates.com do a 3/4 size plate. You can select standard font and spacing. The alternative is a stick on plate (which they do as well i think - you have to request it in the notes section).

My car came with a motorbike sized plate on the front, I prompty stuck the full size plate (which happened to be in the boot) over the top of it because I don't fancy the hassle of being stopped and fined.

Per your picture is what I had in mind, you must have pxssed off the boys in blue to get a fine for that one! At a glance it is difficult to tell that it is not normal size.

Yes the law sets requires certain size, layout, spacing, positioning etc, there are some age related variations but there is no escaping what the law says. Then again, as with other motoring issues, you like to think that the enforcement of the law gives some latitude if you are not taking the pxss.

Better to just not bother with one? Keep a broken one in the boot incase you get pulled and say it literraly only just fell off a few miles back...?

Is this plate not a perfect example of virtually every rule you can break ? Not in the slightest bit surprised you got done for it.

the thing about front plates ( unless the law has changed in the last 2-3 years) is pretty simple......
there are clear instructions viz font and spacing and therefore the only legitimate way to make the plate smaller is if someone has a pers plate, in which case it can obviously be narrower and still comply.

Given that according to the letter of the law a non comforming plate ( which inc's stickies as they don't have the certification number thingy on the bottom ) can carry a fine plus points. Whereas no plate is 'merely' a fine.

Seems to me you pays your money and takes you choice (chance).....

Sorry to hijack the thread, Blatter could you tell me where you got the carbon rear wing protectors from, as I also have a freestyle 7 and would like some the same. Thanks

The Carbon Fibre wing protectors came originally from Richard in France, who sadly died a couple of years ago. The company continued trading for a while under another name but has subsequently ceased trading.

There are a few companies mentioned in this old thread and Caterham Cars also offer them.

Or why not go the whole hog and get carbon fibre wings as advertised on Carbon Mods?

Thank's, I thought they might be a one off as the rear wings on the freestyle 7 are 55mm or so wider than normal to accomodate the sv rear de dion and shafts, also my wings are symmetrical.

No plate on the front of mine for the last 4 years / 10'000 miles I was also told that no plate is better than an illegal size plate. I have never had any problems (touch wood).

I ran no front plate for about 6months but finally got pulled. So I recently changed the square front plate for this one...no problems so far.
