What is the received wisdom on "Camping Holiday in a Caterham"?

Are these two parts of life that are incompatible, or is it an opportunity to get back to basics?

Just wondering...

Home, Europe or off to see the FuzzyWuzzies ?

Not a problem, you soon get used to packing the car. As an impoverished young lad I had little choice. 1000 times better than a motorbike.

Did a week along the Normandy coast doing the D-day beaches, two up, camping every night.
Took some careful selection of kit, coupled with some equally innovative packing, but once sorted we had no issues.
Does make you realise how much crap a traditional suitcase encourages you to take on hols.

Some good tips here: Angus and Tessa's site

Impressive what you can carry two-up in a Caterham:

We managed camping at sprints and hillclimbs we were competing at for a few years. 2 crash helmets, 2 race suits, spares and some tools plus all the camping gear and clothes for the weekend just about fitted in the car. We are both short so plenty of space behind the seats helped. Also an E bag from Soft Bits for Sevens (other brands are available) gives valuable additional storage.
We've done Le Mans a few times and have done many long weekends away.
You need to think carefully about what you want to take and consider small/lightweight camping kit. Pack carefully and use waterproof bags (canoe bags) even inside an E bag. We found that compression sacks helped to get clothes taking up minimum space.

Well, this is all looking encouraging (and later comments and pic). We would be camping on the continent, since we live there anyway. I am kind of thinking about wanderings in the Eifel, if we aren't staying with friends, or maybe heading north and enjoy the Baltic Sea.

We did a week-long hike a couple of years ago, so we are getting better at packing light. The main risk, I suppose, is if it pisses down, but that is always hard to avoid.

Much respect to the life choices made when you were younger. "Impoverished young lad = buy a Caterham". Nice.

In the 1980's when I bought my Caterham they were a tiny niche manufacturer making high quality but relatively inexpensive sports cars. I managed to convince my father that it was much the same as a Morgan( a steady old mans car) and he stood the deposit as I introduced myself to the wonderful world of Hire Purchase !
I had little idea of the performance and road holding and was truly shocked by Graham Nearn as he took me for a test drive in a white 1700 Dedion demo car.
I'm currently on a weight loss programme so I can go buy another Caterham and revisit my youth !
