Temp got to 100 today after 10 minutes of slow traffic. Normally runs at between 80 and 90. Fan is working OK. It's a 2.3 Duratec with less than 1,000 miles on the clock. Reservoir level is fine. Is this an expected problem?

My 2.3 normally runs at about 70-80. Fans cut in at about 90-95 and cool to about 85. Only ever when if traffic.
Today on the motorway temp was nice and cool at about 60 when travelling. Oil at 70 to 80.
My csr has done 13k miles and has always operated at these temps.

Gauges do vary in their accuracy. Also if I recall, the fans are switched on by a second water temp sensor through the ecu. The temp gauge sensor is on the black water rail on alongside the rocker cover. Ecu temp gauge is on the back of the engine, between the engine and the swirl tower.
