On my second run at the Snetterton Sprint last week (round 2 of the Caterham Academy) I lost it on the last bend, shame as it would have been a pretty good time. A combination of turning in slightly too early and getting on the power too soon.

TBH, looked to me as if you'd used the kerb on the inside you probably would have made the corner... maybe...
I'm just really jealous that you get to take place in the Academy, definitely something I want to do in future!

To be honest I didn't think much of it at the time, disappointed that in meant I only had 1 timed run that counted so dropped me down the order a fair bit but I don't think I realised how close I got to the barrier until I watched the video!

yikes! close one! the issue wasn't the turn-in or the early-power though, the issue was too little opposite lock, too late. you can get a caterham back from ludicrous angles with the correct amount of opposite lock and throttle. You need to work on your reaction time Steve :-)Here it is

When I watch it back there are all sorts of things I can see that might have changed the outcome - but at the time it happened it was all over so quickly!
Just watched it on my phone and something looks really strange. It looks like you are really recumbent somehow and not in charge of the car. Is your driving position as laid back as it looks? I had a watch of your Llandow vids too.... you are much, MUCH faster than me around there! Admittedly I've always had a passenger but my laptimes tend to be around 53 seconds (in a 140 Roadsport). I think some more practice is in order!
EDIT: It just occurred to me, you've got two different cars, not sure which one you used on the Llandow video.

I'm very short, have lowered floors and a custom bag seat, so I am really quite low and reclined, certainly need a lot more practice though, only about 1200 miles in this car.Bert

If it was the video with no sound and pink front wings then this is in the Academy car - 125bhp, crap tyres etc and I think I got into the 48s. This was a pretty good day - I had Llandow to myself and an instructor to help me, plus of corse the vbox data to analyse which helps a lot. There are some other Llandow vids of me in the other beastie, this is a bit more powerful and on CR500's so probably quicker but I haven't timed it.
In which case, I'm clearly going too slow on my CR500's....
I could definitely do the chicane a lot faster and I'm taking the wide line on the corner after the bus stop - where you're riding the curb a lot more and turning in earlier.
I had a quick look at some of my videos from last time and I got into the 51's for a few laps but was generally lapping around 52.5.
Safe to say at the moment I'm struggling to get beyond the limit of the tyres. It seems to grip and grip, and I can't find out where the limit is reached. I'm not sure if that's down to the 15" wheels or what, but I've got some more learning to do. It was only my second trackday with the car. Won't be back to Llandow until after an Anglesea trackday next month but I'm looking forward to trying out a few new lines!

My tyres are dead quiet to be honest - which does suggest what others have told me about the 195 width on a 140bhp car being over-tyred.
Yeah the sound would be a great help. I've only got one vid online at the moment from my first trackday in the Seven (I think it was my second session out).

But you think that would be a good thing, if they are not screeching they are gripping although getting the back out/sliding around corners maybe more difficult.

Yeah, but you want the tyres to be squealing a bit as it shows you're right on the edge of their grip. If mine are quiet then I'm probably not pushing hard enough.I have to say though, I did expect the Caterham to squeal less than the Megane since it's a lot lighter!
It's fine though. It's my first RWD car and getting more speed out of it is all part of the learning fun
