Hi,

I'm thinking about getting into Caterham ownership and have just started looking at possible cars.

This one has caught my eye:

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/c...

I've had several high performance cars and generally know my way round a car, but is there anything I should particularly be aware of with Caterhams? I am 6 ft tall and 13 stone with broad shoulders so want to make sure I can fit comfortably in this one as I'm aware they come in varying widths.

It will be a Sunday morning hoon and track day car mainly.

Many thanks,

CycleSi

It doesn't sound like it will be long before it's bought.

Any other tips/advice for me?

Thanks.

noticed that one myself the other day too. Slightly older car but seems a very good spec for the price.

Get it bought smile

Good point.

What sort of dB level are Caterhams usually?

Blimey that car is a bargain surely!? Amazing spec for the money. Looks like it's sold though.

It is indeed, to me and Harry Flashman. Spec was too good to miss smile

Will be selling our 1.6k Supersport (also excellent spec, albeit not quite that good) shortly.

If you're broad shouldered then I'd strongly suggest trying an SV or CSR as they are slightly wider than the S3 chassis.
Also worth trying it with a mate in the passenger seat and the sidescreens closed, if you'll be driving like that.

You probably want to wait until you're somewhere on your own before two of you try to get in with the hood up though biggrin

Dukes of Hazard style works for me both in and out with the half hood and a full cage. biggrin

Thanks for the advice/tips so far.

That particular car is now sold so I shall keep looking although I like the look of this R300:

That R300 does look very nice indeed. As a tip, 13" wheels are probably a better shout for track work (greater choice of (and cheaper) tyres). In terms of noise on track, induction noise can be an issue if the car's on throttle bodies, especially Caterham's roller barrel bodies. They do sound superb though.

I know that this is a fabulous, pampered and fastidiously maintained R300. The advert doesn't really do the car justice. The history folder goes back to day 1 and is as comprehensive as can be.

Price seems a tad optimistic (considering I sold it just before Christmas for £18,500... but then again perhaps I under-priced it) but I guess that means there is a fair bit of wiggle room in there.

Thanks Bert, it's been great, but the lure of more power/goodies proved too strong.
