Just seen this popping up.
Essentially looks like the supercharged R600 adapted for the road. I haven't seen anything on gearbox, power is 311bhp. I had a Duratec R500 and I still regret selling that car. Pretty excited about the prospect of this new car... anyone know anything else about it?

You must be one of Caterham's top customers!!Just a question, but do you ever really use the full performance of your R500? The reason I ask is that, having watched most if not all of your YT videos, I've never seen you wring the car round to the redline. Now watching forum user JeffC in his new R500 on the other hand....

Grant, of course I don't give my R500 the beans in most of my yt videos,,because they are mostly filmed on public roads, and mostly with my six year old son Tom on board too, so that would just be irresponsible!Just a question, but do you ever really use the full performance of your R500? Take a look at my yt video of me at rockingham, it was the first outing of my r500 on track, so,it was still technically being run in, but I was not exactly treating it with kid gloves

Perhaps it was the camera angle and microphone, but it wasn't as manic as I was expecting (e.g. see here, especially from 0:40: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gm0Q0ck0IUo).
All the same, lovely car your Team F1 R500

I'd be interested to know how much work is done to the standard duratec lump to get it safely up to that power. Would be an interesting upgrade path for SSR/R300 owners.
I presume the sequential box is a prerequisite though, which is a shame. 310bhp with a proper manual would be perfect.

Well I guess that does finally ring the end of the flagship being a normally aspirated race bred screamer then...it's probably how they keep the price so low (in the scale of things) by taking this route.
It had to happen though, the Exige and Elise boys have been using 4 pot blown motors for 15 years with success and big power..........catch up time

strange but thats prob one of the tamest trackdays Ive ever done , all my pals ridiculed me for driving like a fanny all day and have to admit they were right not sure what was going on in my head that day ! but being honest I think thats one of the downsides of a more powerful car it takes a bit more (larger testicles) to use all the power on a trackday . I will still stand by my opinion that 200/210 bhp is bang on the money and all you need on track for a 7 , If you watch my R400 vids im actually having more fun and working much harder ,Im not sure on the target market for this car, I would think 310bhp is just willy waving unless you have tamed and got bored of an R500
and looking for the next challenge ?? its got to be hard work to drive it to its full potential and get every last tenth out of it , will certainly take some driver to do it.edited to say maybe this is just me talking like a grumpy old git

I looked at going down the Supercharged duratec route before I upgraded my motor to n/a 280 spec, but most of the appeal on caterham ownership to me is the induction noise when I nail it, It prob goes back to my youth watching Mk2 escorts and Mantas doing the Lombard rac rally blasting through hamsterly forest as a kid, theres just nothing sounds nicer than a set of throttle bods or webbers fully open and If I wanted to hear Whining everytime I floor it I would just take the Mrs out with me ! Doesn't sound like that at all to me, just common sense. It's going to be seriously hairy with all that torque on anything other than a dry warm grippy surface.

Yep, the basic maths us boy racers apply just don't stack up on that one Arnie I have to agree
Seriously though (and by the way I agree with Jeff too)it is a cheap way to go for that sort of claimed power.
It would I'd imagine cost a lot more to spec. and build a 140hp Twink.........I recently did one utilising an already owned L block and head and it was eye watering.........and it wasn't to 140.
Be interesting to know a true cost comparison with this motor and say the 230 Minister K.
Should be interesting though as power figures mean nowt to me any more...........after being out in a 1 ton car with a supposed "only" 260 hp from its Millington motor..............hell on wheels, diffent horses to the supposed similar powered cars I've been out in.

It doesn't whine.......Its a good technical feat to cram it all in and get whopping power, but putting it down on 215 tyres? good in a straight line but probably a handful in the corners, would be fun none the less. When i ran the 300bhp duratec on kumhos to be honest it wasnt the greatest idea for a quick lap, good laugh but slicks are the way ahead.
Agree with JeffC willy waving at its greatest. Having said that i see Mr Barnes got a win at Anglesey which was good to see, but you would have thought as much with his credentials and Caterham behind him, also would have been embarrassing for the flagship car to not have won.

The r600 is not as manic as I imagined due to longer gearing I guess. I think this was only 280 bhp mind.
Lots of fun mind!!
