Correct oil for R300 Superlight with K-Series 1.8 160 bhp?

What is the optimum oil for my 2002 R300 with K-Series 1.8?

It will be driven 'enthusiastically' on the road and do some track days too.

I've read that 5w 50 is the optimum.

I've always run 5w50 in my 1999 1.8 VVC K Series. Just what I believe it started with and what I have carried on running in it.
