After a 5 year absence, I'm thinking of getting back into another 7 and I'm now on the lookout for either a genuine HPC or a good pre cat K series.

Both of these were made on the cusp of the big change over in chasis type, from the under the dash handbrake style to the handbrake on the tunnel top style. Whilst I've read that the latter has a much stiffer chassis, is this really noticeable and are there any other pro's for one type over the other?

If you're considering tracking the car the biggest consideration between the two is noise - HPC's are notoriously difficult to get quiet and unlikely to pass noise testing at (m)any UK race tracks.

Good point Jonny, I remember getting black flagged at Brands Hatch in my JPE a few years ago and being politely told to make the most of the final session as due to noise, they would never allow me back!

The early K series cars, however, were also on the cusp of the chassis change over, so would still be interested in people's views of both chassis types

If you go for a late hpc (mid 96 on) then you will get the tunnel mounted handbrake and the revised front suspension--and the dedion tube with the hole that goes through it for mounting the shocks--all pluses--- with the noise issue its the induction noise that's the killer-- we'll on mine it is.
