Has anyone used a HANS device in a Caterham? The opportunity has come up to get one at a good discount but the little research I've done so far suggests that it may not be that straight forward in a Caterham - possibly needing an 8 point Hans type harness. Anyone got any experience?

A few of the people I sprint with have them and they had to:
a) modify the harness mounting points
b) enlarge the harness holes in the seat (or buy another seat with larger holes)
These modifications were required to meet the recommended fitting of the HANS with respect to harness mount spacing and angle of the harness from mounts to shoulders.
Arch do the mods for the Caterham race series but there are other ways of doing them.

Not an answer to your question but you can use a Simpson Hybrid without any modifications.

Normally,

1.Trip to Arch for a while you wait modification to the two shoulder strap mounting points
2.If you have a seat rather than a bag you will need to change for a HANS compatible
3.Harness swap for something that is HANS friendly.

Thanks for your comments. Being a safety critical item I think I'll progress with caution. If I do go ahead I'll post some updates.

I use one in my Academy 7, had to pay Arch to fit new mounting points but I think it's worth it. For instance one of my fellow competitors hit the barriers not particularly hard, but in his onboard video it was shocking to see how far his head moved despite being firmly strapped in. I'll be converting my other 7 to enable me to use the HANS on trackdays.

Interesting. Never heard of Simpson Hybrid before, but looks viable as a HANS alternative. Anyone got any experience of this device?

My team mate Dave has one, seems very happy with it, I'd say the only disadvantage is that it takes a bit longer to get 'dressed'
