Since minster are no longer , who carries out engine refreshes on the r 500 k series.
Would be nice to hear of any ideas, recommendations and if anyone has experience of running one of these cars.
Do they really need refreshing that often if being driven half on road and half track use.?
Any comments welcome.

Thing is I have had a 140 x power caterham and a Westfield mega blade and both times I wish I had gone for more power, they just are not as fast as I want.
The r 500 is going to be a long term keeper.
Sure, but neither of those cars has the 175-200bhp of the cars I quoted. And the latter has a deficiency of torque...and so does an R500 with factory (Minister) mapping...The r 500 is going to be a long term keeper.
Mine was a keeper...I have just sold it after 8 years...why? I had done the trackday thing to death and tbh on the road, an R500 is just too bloody quick and gets into its stride at 60 mph in 2nd which doesn't make for a 'relaxing' drive.

I see what you are saying , but I already have a relaxing car to drive.
The new supersport r does look interesting , I must admit with the 180 duratec. Maybe I should try it, have you tried the csr?
How long did you go before a refresh?

Personally I don't need a CSR. Drove an SV but it was RST's dev car,so doesn't really count as a standard car! I had my engine rebuilt by Minister when I bought the car as a box of bits. The bill for the rebuild was £6600. Refreshes were in the order of £2500 at the time.

I drove the Supsersport R from Caterham a couple of weeks backThe new supersport r does look interesting , I must admit with the 180 duratec. Maybe I should try it, have you tried the csr?

It had the Maxda 5-speed 'box. Everything about it was right. Plenty of torque so pootling was fine, instant throttle reponse, happy round town and being ragged.
Not as revvy/zany/manic as the K, especially with a 6-sp. It also sounded a little mute compared to full bore K and the exhaust was on the driver's side
They're just so bloody pricey (and rare)

How many miles did you do between refreshes?

I didn't need a refresh. If the engine is looked after and in good condition, no reason why you couldn't cover 18,000miles or even more on it. Especially if it has the later mods re dowelled head and head gasket..How many miles did you do between refreshes?

Very very interesting.
Thanks for the info.
Now who has a factory built r 500 for sale?
I did have....nigh on all of them were factory built, but I understand one or two were not. As I said, do not rule out R400s. The R500 power delivery is all at the top end on a factory-mapped car. Thanks for the info.
