iPhone mod for momo steering wheel

After the IVA was out the way, I was left with the padded leather centre for the momo wheel gathering dust. After having various issues trying to get the speedo to work reliably, I tried downloading a couple of simple GPS digital speedo apps for my phone.
A couple of beers later and I decided to dig out the Dremel. The end result came out pretty well, if a bit silly. The iPhone GPS isn't the most accurate, but it's fine for day to day use. The other benefits are the phone also works as satnav (via google maps), music (via spotify), hands free phone, plus it takes pretty cool (if vom inducing) videos from the wheels perspective.

Thanks! One of my decals was damaged in transit, so they sent me out another couple. I then had one spare so decided to tart up the dashboard a bit. You can only really see the black text against the carbon in certain light which I quite like. Not too shouty, but breaks up the expanse of flat dash a bit.
You know, that's got to be about the best idea I've seen in a very long time. I've fiddled with the iPhone in pocket, sitting here and there, it flying about and I love this!
I think I'm going to see if I can find a plastic one at a phone shop and just semi-permantly mount it into the screwholes and do similar as I always take my wheel with me when away from the car. Then I could just click the phone on….

I'll probably end up getting an external GPS module which will be plugged in to the 12v socket under the dash. Should mean the iPhone is only powering the bluetooth connection rather than the full GPS, plus the speedo and laptimer will work much more responsively.
As it is, I get a good three hours solid use out of the phone with GPS and Spotify running, so that's fine for most journeys, as long as I remember to charge it when I arrive (either via the mains or the 12v socket)

How's it coming along have you tried it out with adult bikes yet?I've put an adult bike on the back but haven't been brave enough to take it out for a drive yet. The bolts which fix the aluminium racks to the rollbar clamps only have small steel washers to spread the load a bit, but i've decided i'd feel a bit more comfortable if there was a steel strip sitting on top of the rack, so that the rack was clamped between the clamp (!) and the steel strap. Less chance of the aluminium rack bending/twisting.
It's probably fine as it is, but i'd rather it was over-engineered considering how much the bikes will get bumped about out back.
