K Series Apollo tank install - Help please

I have installed a 1.6 megagrad engine into My MG midget a year ago. The engine came with a Apollo tank, which I am now installing.
On the MG, the oil filter has to be remote from the block, due to clearance issues. without the Apollo, there is a an oil line leaving the block, flowing into the remote oil filter ( where the oil pressure is measured) and another line back to the block.
I have now installed the apollo tank and now the return hose goes into the top of the apollo, and the bottom outlet of the apollo routes back into the engine.
does this sound the best solution?
I rigged this up without the smaller top bleed connected to the cam cover an was surprised to see oil gushing out of the top of the tank! I have now run a spare pipe from an oil pressure gauge from the apollo to the cam cover. As it is opaque, it seems to be full of oil when running.
oil pressure seems normal, but takes a little longer to rise now.
I have also added approx 4lts oil, and when dipping the running engine, it still seems to need more adding.
does all this seem right?

It's right to go in at the top and out at the bottom. The breather supplied should be restricted, so whilst it will let oil out the top, it will only be a small amount. It is the air in the oil that it is there to bleed back into the cam cover. The tank holds 2l of oil, so you will need to add that sort of amount to the overall oil system capacity. Assuming the Megagrad engine you have doesn't have a dry sump, it will take ~7.5l of oil.
