I have a friend who might have accidentally exceeded the speed limit (twice) and been flashed by a roadside camera in France... What's the deal... Should they expect a letter in the post or will I (oops, they) cop for it on their return next year?

Indeed, my "friend" was flashed on the motorway in Belgium on his way to the Nurburgring a few years ago. Heard nothing of it.

You only get stopped at the border if you are driving a locally registered car - i.e. a hire car - then don't pay up. Happened to me a few years ago in The Netherlands. I didn't pay up as they never sent the fine to any intelligible address. Sadly they got my name and DOB correct.

By the time I got stopped the fine was €600. I protested and got stopped and threatened with arrest every time I entered and exited Schiphol for 6 months, which was a tad inconvenient as I was going to Den Haag almost weekly.

Eventually they backed down and settled at the original €75.



I got flashed in the 7 outside Saint Quentin (FR) a couple of weeks ago. I don't expect to hear anything.
