Sump clearance

Pulled into a driveway today where there were 2 small gates stops (5inches or so high) wacked my sump at 20 mph or so. Slight visible damage (just to housing). Do I need to worry? ...Will be more careful next time?

If there's no signs of oil leakage probably no need to worry. However if you've hit a 5" high obstacle in a Caterham you probably need a visit to Specsavers

Had a similar oops in mine a few years ago, the gate stop was on a crown onto the drive way and it came upto meet the sump as the wheels were the other side of the crest.

same problem you get with narrow speed humps.

Check for oil leakage both when hot and cold and check your oil levels more frequently.

I did something similar with a gate stop (albeit a much lower one that I never imagined would be a problem but, two up, turned out to be) and an alloy sump.

Although you could see a mark from the impact on the outside it didn't look to be losing anything but over the miles it became apparent that oil was escaping. When I whipped the sump off it the damage inside was much more obvious that from the outside.

Not sure if it was a case of hot oil finding its way out or the gap opening up a bit when cold but it was definitely getting out.

If I were you I'd put a mat or paper under it when parked up and check before/after a decent run.
