Will a Caterham fit my garage

Sound odd but bear with me. There is not enough room to fit two normal cars because although depth is around 8 meters the bottom 3.5 meters is only 2m wide. Would it be possible to fit a Caterham in that space (2 x 3.5)?

From the owners manual (mm):

S3 Length: 3380 Width: 1575

SV Length: 3530 Width: 1685

It would seem that length is your limiting factor, plus it would be awefully cosy if you did manage to squeeze it in.

Get a piece of chalk and a length of 2x4 stud and mark it out on the floor, If you re move the nose cone that will save you 3 or 4 inches

Length not a problem as have more than 3.5 m. Worried about the width. Not sure I could park it and get out!

dont forget that is width overall,,,, not width of the body, so you have at least a rear wing width in play each side to help you get out. If its on the level you could always push it into the garage!

It'll be fine. They weight nothing so you can push it in if getting out is a problem. You only need an inch clearance either side.

I built my Seven in a small Airchamber- 4.5m x 2m. At the front I have a tool chest and had to store the engine/gearbox.

I think the quoted lengths are with a spare wheel fitted.

Agreed, you'll be fine. My garage is marginally wider (2.2) but there's loads of space. I do push mine in the garage to make things easier though. As said, you have a wings width at least to open the door and get out of as the body is very narrow compared with overall width.

I have a set of shelves on the wall on one side of the garage which are at least 20 cm deep and its still not an issue.

Actually, tell a lie, just went out to check and the garage is 2.3m at the back where it's widest.

If you want an idea if how tight it will be, here is one of me with the car in the garage. If you consider that jack on the left is about 25cm wide and away from the wall you aren't far off visualising what an S3 would look like in the space you've got.

You'd certainly be able to do it of you were prepared to push it into the garage.

An S3 is 1575mm wide at its widest point, as already mentioned. I measured one just the other day to be sure myself.

Perhaps I should have looked first, but it seems that a standard garage door is only 2134 mm wide. Hadn't realised that. So actually far tighter getting our BMW M135i through a standard door (as BMW is 1984 mm wide) than getting the caterham into a gap of 2000 mm! Problem solved...

...apart from finding a Caterham 7.

I told my wife I wanted to buy a garage with a house attached but she didn't agree!

Being serious: finding a house we liked in Cambridge was much harder than we thought. Garage is huge - for one car - but not big enough for two unless second is a Caterham.

No room for the scooter so that would have to go outside. Not sure where yet.

M135i currently in the garage.

Caterham is the "sensible" second car and most likely. (Of course, being super sensible I would stick with just the M135i)

Unfortunately I have a history of doing not very sensible things when it comes to cars :-)
