Powder coating stainless lights?

I'm refreshing my car, new paint and colour scheme is the order of the day. I've currently got some 5 1/4" lights up front from SVC. They're polished stainless steel. Has anyone ever powder coated these or similar? As I now want black lights.

Thinking this would be cheaper than buying new if possible.

I've recently had a S/S heat shield powder coated black, and it came back looking really good. The fabrication guy said it was no problem doing stainless, go for it.

I've heard/ read mixed things about the coating sticking or not in such cases to the polished surface.

Are you sure they're polished stainless and not chrome?

I'd have thought your best route would be to by black ones and sell the old chrome ones....

Murph's recomendation is best. Powder on chrome only stickes if you blast the chrome off. The material of the lights is too thin to survive.

If they were chrome I'd not bother.

I'll email to see if when I bought mine they were chrome or stainless.

In general the stuff sold by SVC is made to a price point. I doubt very much that they are stainless.

Stainless Steel is non-magnetic, (apart from 409 used in cheepy exhaust systems)
so raid the fridge door.

One proviso though. I have a pair of quality lights that are non-magnetic but they are chromed brass.

I had my original 7 black headlamps redone. I removed all of the old paint using nitromoors and then a light shotblast. They were then zinc coated followed by a black gloss paint. I also made an aluminium spacer to go between light body and location sleeve as i found this had " dug in " and caused a lip to form whereas the collar bites into the ally spacer.
