When might I need to order for Academy '15?
Discussion
Clearly I'm way too late for '14 and I'm not financially ready for it either.
What's the latest time I could order a Caterham built Academy car for 2015? I'm considering it and depending on finances next year I'd like to order in June/July but don't want to leave it too late.
p.s. Christmas TV is s
t!

t! I just did the Academy 2013 and ordered my car in Sept 11 I think, but I was one of the first! I think you could still squeeze in for 2014 even now but you wouldn't get the car until pretty much the first event. My best guess to try to make sure you have one of the early batch for 2015 would be to order by Feb/Mar. You can find a lot of info about my experience on www.sevenracing.com and if you want a car to practice in then I might be able to help

Thanks for that, I've actually read the stuff on your site already
Even if I had the cash right now, it's not yet time to commit. I'm very much aiming for 2015 and want to give myself time to play around with the car before the racing starts. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't leaving things too late (or too early!)

You can sign up , but you won't get your car delivered until end of 2014, with the rest of 2015 drivers.
You could buy an earlier acadamy car , grubsters is a prime example currently for sale, as previous drivers have done and use that for a year to get used to it , but the latest 2014 on cars have a different gearbox and engine spec , so will not be the definative spec.
What ever you buy use the standard acadamy tyres and resist the temptation to use anything better as this won't help you work out the grip limits of the car

You are correct, the only way into the Academy is by buying a new car, you can't do it any other way. Grads is a good option if you want to go for second hand to save a few quid and there are several specs (and ages) of cars that are eligible. If I decide to do another season of racing in a year or 2's time I'll probably by an ex-academy car and join the grads.

Is your car for sale in the classifieds mate? I realise you can't 'peddle your wares' but if you can describe it then I should be able to find it
